I just had a couple questions about the Foo Moms (and Males probably in the same boat)
Is there a reason why they don’t have fitted boxes? I just shipped out the one I painted and I’m all sorts of nervous, even though I packed her nice and tight, but a larger sculpt, especially with the front legs, I would feel 1000x better with a fitted box.. I’m probably going to keep the numbers way down for how many I paint purely for this reason, I’m too nervous shipping them to new homes. I was also a bit panic struck when I very first opened her, because she was only packed in a roll of bubbles (Quite a bit to keep her padded) but there was a large gap in her box of pure nothing (1/4 of the box or better of nothing).. and many of us here know what happens when a Windstone has the chance to move in a box… I unrolled her very carefully and was super thankful she was still in one piece.. but it still makes me nervous..
I was also wondering if anyone has had any probs with felt pads fitting? I had to trim one of the pads that goes on a front paw to get it to fit right, and the larger pad I trimmed a lot off and it still didn’t fit quite right, but at least I got it to where there wasn’t grey felt sticking out from under her, especially with tacky side exposed… the tail part was angled wrong and the curves all around were in the wrong places…
Just curious if I got a wonky pad or something? or if a lot of people have run into this problem?October 8, 2014 at 4:24 am #920335per pad, i have noticed them to be kinda wonky lately. The last flap cat i did, I had to re-cut the hole on the pad cause it wasn’t in the same spot as the inset in the statue and by almost half a centimeter to the lower left.

actually, you made me want to go check the one i have that i ordered recently, and my pads wont fit right either. They are off shape and too big/ And the front right foot does not have the hole punched for around the inset in it either. were the wrong pads sent with some of the foo moms? mine was packed like that too.

I’m keeping that particular PYO though so I just stuck it on there anyway. It still looks good on the bottom!

Excellent!
October 8, 2014 at 12:42 pm #920348The hole in pads is almost always wonky, my guess there is the stamp in the Windstones doesn’t always lands exactly right, I nearly always have to recut to get it right, especially on Keepers, and some of those recuts can be pretty big pieces… but the overall shape is usually right to fit on the bottom of a Windstone and not overrun the sides, this wasn’t the case with the Foo Moms pad, it was all around the wrong shape and size…
Mine also did not have the hole in the pad for the stamp on the foot… which confuses me, if it is meant to just get covered, why put it on the Windstone at all? I’m glad I didn’t paint the lil emblem like I thought about doing originally… just an added lil touch, I would have been disappointed to cover it and would have had a hard time trying to cut it out of the padOctober 8, 2014 at 5:06 pm #920360The hole in pads is almost always wonky, my guess there is the stamp in the Windstones doesn’t always lands exactly right, I nearly always have to recut to get it right, especially on Keepers, and some of those recuts can be pretty big pieces… but the overall shape is usually right to fit on the bottom of a Windstone and not overrun the sides, this wasn’t the case with the Foo Moms pad, it was all around the wrong shape and size…

I know cause I almost always try to paint the hole and the “peña” on the side of the sculpts. I think we got weird pads or something. i wonder if we got some of the male foo’s pad peices by accident? like one female paw and one male paw with the males back pad? I dunoo.

We realized that it isn’t necessary to have pyo pads with holes for the inset stamp to show. If the pyo has a real Windstone pad, that is all it needs to make it authentic. The inset stamp only needs to serve this purpose if the pad gets lost. So now some of the pads, like the front-foo-feet, don’t have holes in them at all. It’s too hard to get the inset hole and pad hole to line up perfectly in every casting.
The bottom of the female foo got changed and made larger. It is possible you’ve got a large foo-pad for a small bottomed foo-mom.

They are very close in shape but not exactly the same.

October 8, 2014 at 7:20 pm #920375Genuine question: Have any PYOs had fitted boxes in the past?
It may be a way to keep the cost of them down.Volunteer mod- I'm here to help! Email me for the best response: nambroth at gmail.com

It may be a way to keep the cost of them down.Yes, I just bought a painted-by-somebody-else keeper that arrived in a fitted box. I also have at least one fitted box for a PYO unicorn.

It may be a way to keep the cost of them down.Keepers and PYO Unicorns do for sure… I’m not sure of other larger pieces as I haven’t ordered a Griff or Phoenix…
Given most of my PYO’s are painted to sell (I don’t have near enough space to keep all that I want to paint) I *much* prefer having a fitted box to help assure what I just put a 1-3 months into painting is going to arrive to it’s new home safely.. Things like the Small Dragon and smaller yet pieces don’t bother me not having fitted boxs, the larger ones who have the weight to force themselves to shift and the ones that have limbs that’re easier to break (Foo’s legs) are the ones I’m nervous about…
I have always felt super secure shipping Keepers because their fitted boxes keep them in place, shipping a PYO Uni with a fitted box helps assure the horn won’t get severely messed up… I’d love to see a fitted box for the adult Foo’s to help assure their legs are all ok…I wonder if you got sent a male foo’s pad by mistake? They are very close in shape but not exactly the same.
I sort of wondered the same, unfortunately I didn’t have time to have the right one sent to me as my Foo was needing to go to her new home..
Also, why not use the same inset stamp that’s on the bottom of the Keeper in the larger base of the foo’s? Instead of on a foot? Could cut the pads the same way as the Keepers, the stamp is in the sculpt and would probably leave more room for signing the pads, as the plaster inset is smaller than the felt pad stamp… Just a thought.

The inset stamp needs to be placed into the mold so that there is room around it to pour the gypsum. There wasn’t room in the foo dogs smaller base to both place the inset stamp and have room on a pad to stamp the logo, if there was a hole in the pad. Thats why we just put a “W” mark on the paw.
– then we decided the pads didn’t really need holes anyway.October 9, 2014 at 4:33 am #920408Genuine question: Have any PYOs had fitted boxes in the past?
