Melody has discovered that some of the PYO Kitty Griffins may have needed an extra rinse in water to remove the salts that come out when the plaster is drying. These “gritty” kitties have been given an extra bath when we found them, but some may be already boxed up or have already been shipped out. As a pre-caution, we are now labeling them to remind you to rinse them off in water and let them dry out before you begin to paint them. Hopefully we caught them all, but we are not certain. An extra rinse will not harm them.

Melody can answer questions about this, its something I don’t know much about.

I think I got one of the “gritty kitties” he didn’t take his paint well at all. I figured it was me, since I’m a new painter.

Melody said they painted o.k. … Let’s ask her about this!

There were just a couple of spots on front paws that needed attention. I got him painted just fine, in the end.

I hand painted one of the grittiest kitties I could find, without rinsing him, and he painted just fine. I airbrushed a second one with black paint, without giving him an extra rinse , and he did show a bit of “salt” coming through the black paint after a couple days. That’s why we recommend rinsing these guys before you paint, to ensure that there are no salts left on the surface.
All the PYOs are given two rinses before we box them. We washed all the gritty ones that I found a third time.
Normally this isn’t a problem, but we must of gotten a bag or two of some weird gypsum that did this. We haven’t found this problem on any of the other pieces, so far.

I had no idea that windstones got washed before being painted! That’s pretty neat. 😀

I didn’t notice anything gritty about mine before I painted him, so maybe I got one of the grit-less kitties lol

So, it’s only the Kitty Griffies we need to rinse?
You don’t normally need to rinse any of the PYO sculpts – correct?
