This is a really weird handful of questions – But I am having a hard time finding info on the Emerald Emperor dragons anywhere!
I gather that the orange-eyed Emerald Emperor is rarer than the usual one. Why is this, and how many are there?
As for the regular-eyed Emerald Emperors: What colour eyes do they even have? All of the eBay picture results I could find (which were not many) came up with orange eyes.
I’m asking because I think I may have one soon. I found one for sale in Sudbury and my cousin picked it up for me! But the ad is gone now, so I don’t have a photo yet. I couldn’t quite tell what its eyes were, since I didn’t have anything to compare it to.
Thanks for the help 🙂
April 9, 2014 at 11:30 am #911279I’m pretty sure that the one in Sudbury (I saw the ad as well) had orange eyes. That was quite a bargain, congrats! And if you want to invest a little more, I’m sure that Kyrin or drag0nfeathers can fix up those little dings so it looks good as new. Or if you want to stay in Ontario, you might ask dragonmedley, she did a great job paint-matching an emerald for me a while back…
As for eye/jewel color, the standard color for all emeralds is red eyes/red jewels. Non standard and rarer are the orange eyes/clear jewels combo, this was done by mistake but no one know exactly how many made it out of the factory like this.
My personal preference goes to the orange eyes/clear jewel.
April 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm #911282I always thought the orange eyes were mistakes, too, until I read Susie’s post in a thread earlier this year.

“Emerald dragons with orange eyes and jonquil jewels are from the first batches of emerald we painted in 1997 when we introduced that color – they are not really “mistakes” – that was the chosen eye and jewel color for the emerald. We didn’t make all of the family members with those eye and jewel colors before the eyes and jewels were changed to red.(Please don’t ask me which styles we did that way – no one was keeping records of that at the time and I do not know. Someone else – like maybe Pam – may have observed which styles were done with orange eyes and jonquil jewels. )”
There’s more info in that same thread from Pam about which sculpts were made with which eye colour.Hopefully this info helps.

It is rarer because less were made before they got switched over to red-eyed. No one knows how many there are. There’s no way to find out. They are indeed less common, and some sculpts are much less common than others. As Susie said, it seems that not ever sculpt was produced with the orange eyes before it was changed, so it seems it might be impossible to have a ‘full set’ of orange-eyed emerald dragons.

Red, and orange. In theory there are probably more red eyed Emerald Emperors out there but a number of orange eyed ones have popped up in the last few years.

Oh? New info to me… Thanks!
And as has been said, maybe we can’t know all dragons were done with orange eyes and jonquil jewels, but from seeing them from time to time, I can tell you that the Emperor, Male, Mother, Young and Hatchling have all been done with the orange/jonquil combo. If there are others, I’ve never seen them.

I was surprised, too. I like the orange eyes myself but don’t own any. All my emeralds have red eyes.
I’ve seen the same sculpts you mention with orange eyes but haven’t seen any others. Maybe it was the “original” sculpts only?Life is beautiful.
April 10, 2014 at 2:19 am #911327Thanks for all the help! I was able to get the seller to send me photos of him, though I may not actually have him in my possession for a couple months:
These are orange eyes I think?
April 10, 2014 at 2:38 am #911330That’s it! I have an orange-eyed emperor and male myself and the eyes on yours match. Congrats on your find! 🙂
Forever seeking: Blackwatch the raffle Old Warrior, Jennifer Miller's pieces, and GB Baby unis!
