I really love this pose with those lighter eyes! Don’t care for the dark eyes the rising spectral in white has, they are just too dark for my taste…
So side question (not to ‘jack’ Dragon’s thread, but thought this question went hand in hand): for anyone else that has the original white dragons and that has also bought the ‘new’ ones like these spectrals, new baby dragon, or new hatching version 2 – how well do your new white dragons match your originals?
My new hatching dragon did not match very well, but the blue egg is distracting enough and he is small enough its not particularly noticeable. BUT, the new baby dragon in white REALLY doesn’t match my original whites at all. 🙁 And when I put both new poses side by side near the old whites it really shows that the hatching guy doesn’t match very well either…but its really the baby dragon that is way off. My old whites, the white parts have this soft luminescence to it that softens the white to look more like an actual pearl (actual oyster pearl, where the color is this rich and creamy looking white instead of a stark white). The new baby dragon in white is a far harsher silvery white, he looks more like a light silver almost gray shade, especially when he sits next to my other white dragons. I think its because the new baby was antiqued in gray so it changes the shade of that pearl white towards that end of the spectrum too much…so he is really cute and I love the new baby pose, he just really doesn’t match my white family like I’d hoped.
I think all my original whites are pretty much first releases because I started collecting them back in the mid to late 1980s, and we all know windstones can vary with the painters…so I was wondering if anyone else has noticed any mis-matches in the old whites compared to the new?
January 23, 2014 at 5:03 am #907997mine doesn’t look grey. He is super cute and pearly, my first white and I love him. No greyish at all. creamy near the gold highlights

My baby dragon only matches the original hatching white dragon that I have. It looks like they used the gray antique with the original hatching dragons to bring out the cracks in the egg. Otherwise, the baby looks much duller than the other whites I have because of the gray antique. The gold nose is also different from the original whites as well. I’ve kind of held off buying any of the new white spectrals (which I’ve wanted for a while) because of this. I’m curious to know how they are painted.
January 23, 2014 at 8:21 pm #908015Spectral eyes: The eyes on the White Spectral Dragon are the same clear crystal ball eyes with the rainbowy effect that the White Rising Spectrals (and all of the other spectrals) have. The picture makes them look light because it was taken with the light reflecting out of them – in a way that happens sometimes when you see them from a certain angle – they look different from different angles. We are planning to replace that photo with a better one (and the eyes won’t look so bright). The eyes are not “lighter” than the others.
White dragon differences: The first batch of Baby Dragons in white that we shipped were darker than most of the older white dragons. Someone pointed this out and we have lightened them up (and changed the picture to match them) to match the majoirity of white dragons better. When we started pulling out white dragons to use as samples to match the color – they were all different! No two were exactly the same. Those first Baby Dragons are going to become more rare than those in the store right now, and those that follow. If you have one and don’t like it because he looks like he played in the dust (like babies do!), please contact me. (don’t try to bathe him!) susie@windstoneeditions.com

Agreed! That was my concern too with the spectrals so glad I’m not alone. Dull is a very good description when you compare his color against the original whites and I did notice the nose gold was a bit different as well but thought that may be just my particular guy. My very first thought when I pulled the new baby out of his box before I even held him next to my other whites was “gray?”…
BUT I LOVE the baby dragon pose, its probably my all time favorite dragon, and by himself the little guy is super cute. My original whites do all match very well so this one little grayish guy really stands out and does not look good when displayed next them. However, since Susie says the new baby white batch is lighter and will match a lot better, and since these guys are an affordable price (one of my favorite sculpts) and a really nice display size, I’ll just pick up a second one to display with my white family and then move my current baby so he is with some of my other windstones.
So no issues, I was just curious if it was just me or my particular baby or not that was so mis-matched. 🙂
January 24, 2014 at 4:03 am #908022I have a lot of whites. They’ve come from different locations and were no doubt made at separate times. They all go well together with only slight colour variations. The baby, from this first batch, fits in just fine. I’m even happier to know that he’ll be more rare because of his “off” colouring (which I don’t find to be off). I’m looking forward to the arrival of my white sitting spectral. I love my white dragon family and I am quite happy with the slight colour variations. I think it gives character.
On that same note, I have a peacock family that has spanned several generations of painting and they all get along very well despite their slight differences in colour.
It’s also one if the joys of hand-painted art.
Life is beautiful.
January 25, 2014 at 9:32 pm #908057Actually, nevermind, after reading about the white color, and inspecting my white baby, it does have a silvery grey tint to it. Like a silver/grey pearl. I actually like it that way. Kinda cool if that means he’s special.
