I know that this is a really, really noobish question but I’m honestly wondering this! Is the white glue which seems to be recommended all over the forum also the best thing for gluing in gems? I tried to look at the PYO FAQ thread for the answer but none of the comments seem to be present there at all any more. I only see one post!

November 11, 2013 at 3:29 am #905134I used super glue on all my eyes and gems. hasn’t really seemed to be any trouble using it
November 11, 2013 at 4:14 am #905135Yup, I use white glue too. Usually put a tiny drop on a toothpick to avoid getting an overglue incident 🙂
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

November 11, 2013 at 7:15 am #905139That’s a good question as I was just about to glue in my eyes and gem on my pyo and was thinking the same thing as I haven’t glued gems before.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
November 11, 2013 at 8:30 pm #905165I think this is an excellent question. In my limited experience, white glue is great for eyes and small gems. With the larger gems, I have trouble getting the gems to stick with white glue…so I used super glue.
White glue is nice because it cleans up easy, dries fairly clear and if you decide you want different eyes/gems in your piece it supposedly doesn’t damage the sculpt if you remove them properly.
Super glue has better hold BUT if it squeezes out from behind the gem/eye, can dry with a white, crusty appearance (depending on the super glue). And if it gets on the gem itself will give it a foggy appearance. Yuck! So be careful if you use it. I’m wondering if the super glue made expressly for use on glass would be a good choice. It dries beautifully clear when I’ve used it in the past. However, I’ve never used it for a PYO Windstone.

Aleene’s makes a line of white glues that I find works better than regular white glue. I like the clear gel formulation because it doesn’t leave a foggy film if you accidentally get glue on the surface of the item you’re gluing.
November 16, 2013 at 2:49 pm #905284I use Loc-tite gel for almost everything! Stuff works amazing <3 Like superglue without the mess of superglue.
