I am not sure why this hasn’t occurred to me before but I realized some of the dragons are named after gemstones like Ruby, Emerald, Jade, Amethyst, Aquamarine and not to mention precious metals too with silver, gold and copper. I was just thinking of precious gemstones that haven’t been made into production colours and was thinking what about Sapphire?
There are a couple shades of green, purple and red in the dragons and since there is now a lighter blue of Aquamarine, why not a darker shade of blue like Sapphire for the dragons too? Also for the pink that I am hoping to see come out on more dragons, what about either pearly pink like the curlies or maybe rose quartz or another pink gemstone?
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

Yes,I was trying to stick to naming all of our dragon colors after minerals and metals, but now we have strayed into using all kinds of names for them.
We have been trying to come up with a Sapphire blue dragon color for years and years. I just don’t like the blue pigments we use enough to paint an entire dragon in dark BLUE… TOO MUCH BLUE… WAY TOO MUCH BLUE-
-but I am always thinking about it, mostly because I like the name “sapphire” so much.I have test painted Turquoise dragons and I kinda like that color, so it is a possibility.
We did pink dragons for awhile, but we called them just “Pink” or “Pink pearl”.

Have you ever seen a “pinfire opal”? wow

Just googled it, and oh..my..goodness! It’s gorgeous! I’ve always said if I ever get my hands on an engagement ring, I want an opal stone! But I’ll take a dragon, or even a pebble animal *wink wink*!

What about lapis lazuli with an undertone of purple and add some turquoise and pyrite flecks…

October 5, 2013 at 10:07 pm #903814In keeping with the gemstone theme I’d love to see peridot and citrine dragons. They whole dragon doesn’t have to be painted in the same color. The belly scales and wings would be a lighter color and the topline darker. I can just picture a yellow and cream colored dragon with green eyes 😀
October 5, 2013 at 10:13 pm #903815Opals and Turquoise are two of my favourite stones! What about a blue opal dragon? Another favourite stone of mine is Ammolite although I don’t know how that would look on a dragon but kind of like a rainbow or Christmas colours. I like the snow lion colours if you did maybe a dark blue dragon with lighter blue accents kind of like that!

October 5, 2013 at 11:43 pm #903820Just throwing this out there – Tiger’s eye – They’ve always been one of my favourite gemstones. Or – Hematite – such a nice shiny black. 🙂

October 6, 2013 at 12:38 am #903823Why not a blue and orange dragon like the one on the front page (Blue Flame) but add more orange and maybe some darker blue. It wouldn’t be sapphire though anymore but it would be a nice blue color. I have the Blue Flame old warrior and he’s wonderful!
“Twilight” that Olympia did was gorgeous too. I know you couldn’t do exactly that color but something close would be good.
October 6, 2013 at 1:19 am #903826I really liked the other blue one that Olympia did called Ash Blue (link below). It had enough blue to call it sapphire but not so much that it was overdoing it. I felt like it really made those unique eyes stand out as well- it’s one of my favorite color schemes so far that I have seen. I was very surprised to see lavender and pink dragons before seeing any dark blue ones, to be honest!
October 6, 2013 at 2:59 am #903830Peridot, definitely peridot!! 😀 I’d love to see sapphire too.

Excellent!
October 6, 2013 at 7:32 am #903843Wouldn’t peridot be close the the original green? I agree I love the twilight scheme and the Ash Blue one! I hope to see darker blue either way and turquoise would be fabulous!
