Hi there! I wanted to say how touched I am at all the people that wrote me notes about Molly! You are all very sweet and kind.

I did not end up selling Buckwheat, I found a farmer here that needed some labor done and I worked up almost $500 for Molly! The rescue is still taking donations for her, so between me and the rescue we might have it all covered.

For those of you who missed the ad… Molly is a beautiful red and white husky! She was left at the Fort Worth Shelter in Texas. After no rescues stepped up (no one would foster her) she was going to be put down and I knew this. I stepped up and said I would. You see Molly is blind, and probably has been blind her whole life. She has severe glaucoma, cataracts, and ulcers. Medication is not relieving any pain, or pressure. She has seen a specialist, and it’s agreed all around that her eyes just need to be removed.

She is a very happy girl, she does not let the fact that she is blind hinder her joy for life in anyway. Always smiling, wagging her tail, eating my flip flops…lol. Taking the eyes out will only improve her life as she will not be in pain, subject to constant eye drops, and the danger of further injuring them will be gone so she can go and play like a normal dog.

Well, just found out that all the donations that the rescue received barely covered her initial eye exams with the specialist… so Buckwheat will be back up for sale!

If anyone wants to donate to the rescue a You Caring Fund has been set up for her.

If you can, please share her story! She needs all the help she can get!

          Warm Howls to you all!

I cross posted Molly’s link to the Husky rescue group here. Hopefully we can raise some money from them too. Has the rescue contacted SOS, Save Our Siberians. They sometimes help with medical expenses for huskies needing surgery in rescue.

Thank you for cross posting Setsuna!!! I know that they are doing everything they can for her.

                  I think I found Molly’s weakness tonight…homemade banana bread 🙂

Hopefully the funds can be raised to do her surgery. Sight is actually the third most important sense for a dog. Smell followed by hearing are more important, but hearing can also be overcome. I’ve raised a dog that went deaf (our current dog has also gone deaf at nearly 15) and poor vision for both. Our previous dog (passed last year) and our current were not hard to work with (despite one having a determined/stubborn streak :P). It just took adjusting from spoken commands to bigger hand motions and touch. Small adjustments with big rewards. I’ve also read recently a very good article on blind dogs. Very informative.

If I can, I’ll also make a donation.

Oh, like that’s a big revelation…EVERYONE’S weakness is homemade banana bread! 😀 😀

All kidding aside, Molly can have a lovely life without her sight, My dog (the first I’ve had in 20 years) is older (8+) and going blind from cataracts. Even though I have only had him 2 years, he is adjusting just fine, depending on his nose and ears to get around. And he seems happy (I don’t have the $2000 for cataract surgery). 🙂

I can’t donate, but I’ll be sharing the donation link and trying to see if I can get other people to!

I fostered a blind senior husky several years ago. Put a baby gate up if you have stairs. I made that mistake and poor Abby fell down them…..only once, I learned from that mistake. But Abby navigated just fine without her eyes. And I accidentally got her adopted. We were having foundation repairs done ie jackhammer in basement bad for blind with heart condition, so some friends of mine watched her while the construction was happening. They were so smitten with her; they adopted her. She had this way of making everything better. No matter how bad you felt, Abby would come over bump her head against you and bam everything was better. Her new mom said she amazingly positive energy.

I may adopt another social needs dog once I have a few less of my own.

She does awesome without seeing. We all think she has been blind since birth so it’s natural for her. She is hilarious when she is all excited, she’ll make tight circles around me with her butt tucked running lol.

Thank you everyone, for sharing, for donating, and just sending her good vibes…every bit counts!

I am always in awe at the heart and caring of my Windstone family!

Molly is having surgery today. Please send her some healing wishes! Gah I’m so nervous!

Healing mana is being directed to her right now. ***Puts fingers to temples*** I predict she will come through with flying colors and live a long and happy life. Make it so.
