This is a pet peeve of mine, I’ve been told time and again that many USPS employees pretend that packages cannot be tracked across the border. And because of this, some people will not sell or buy to/from Canadians.
It’s not true, I have done it time and time again and I will prove it:
This is a package that was sent to me from the US (all that’s missing, for the moment, is delivery confirmation because I picked it up less than one hour ago):
USPS: https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction!input.action?tLabels=cw609713040US
Canada Post: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/track/personal/findByTrackNumber?execution=e1s1
And this is a package that I sent to the US:
USPS: https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction!input.action?tLabels=CX494889924CA
Canada Post: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/track/personal/findByTrackNumber?execution=e2s1
It is true that not all services can be tracked, among those, First Class International. But many can, including Priority International which is the next cheapest option.
Food for thought the next time you post something for sale or are looking to buy.
August 16, 2013 at 2:23 am #901504I can confirm this as well. I track packages all the time across borders. Unless it’s a package that for some reason was not scanned (I’ve had this happen once before…. totally breathed a sigh of relief when it arrived safely 2 weeks later at its destination), I can track things no problem. I may have to jump to a different site depending on the country for more detailed tracking, but I can still track packages with a trackable number.
Shipping to Canada is easy. Yes, it takes longer (thanks to customs) and I do find I have less hassle with paperwork if I fill the postal service customs forms out online (paying postage online and then dropping it at the post office), but it’s pretty easy to do once you try it.
August 16, 2013 at 4:46 am #901505I live in Canada too and almost always get small packages with first class international mail but you can actually track those from the U.S. as well. If the seller pays for shipping at the post office and gets the the customs form number for you, you can use that to track the package in the U.S. til it gets to Canada which for me is all I need as I have never had a problem getting a package. But the last Windstone piece sent to me from the U.S. was also shipped with first class but because it was paid online with ship and click, it actually had a tracking number e-mailed to me that I could track even into Canada. It is showing my piece was last in Vancouver and is one the way to Calgary so that is a nice thing I found out. Everything I have shipped to the U.S. with Canada Post has included a tracking number unless it was sent small packet air mail. But they recently came out with tracked packet which is for small packets but has tracking for about $5 more. I used that to send my last package to the U.S. and tracked it all the way there. So hope that helps some people too.
