I picked up this near life size fox statue from a local auction for $5. I fell in love with that sweet expression on her face. As you can see she had pitting and some pretty bad holes in her front legs as well as cracks. Hopefully, I can fix her up. I have been working on her for about a week and still have a way to go. I took photos along the way but there are still more to come. Enjoy.

Holes and cracks filled. She may always have a bit of a scar.

Here she is primed and ready for a new look. Even though I think this is more of an arctic fox statue I decided to go with a more geographicaly relevant color. I can only imagine how it was in the “old days” when you have to scour nature books and magazines for reference photos.

She does have a sweet face. I can’t wait to see how she ends up 🙂

She’s adorable. Looking forward to seeing the ‘finished’ photos. 🙂

After much internet research I have surmised that the base coat of the common red fox is a mustardy yellow.

Now it’s on to the main coat. We are talking layers. Lots and lots of layers.

It has been raining so these photos were taken inside. Some with flash, others not. I mostly just have the face and ears left to finish.

So cute! Coming along nicely with the natural color paint!

OH she is looking great!! Are you going to antique her to get a richness and depth to the coat. I think that would look amazing in just a tiny deeper tone than the under coloring.

Great work on this piece. Can’t wait to see it finished 🙂

I still have some fiddling to do. And the eyes and ears still need work but she is getting closer.
