I recently scored this beautiful dragon at the goodwill. I was wondering the best way to clean it he’s very dusty. But very great shape only 1 tiny chip. Was also wondering what this is worth? Thanks
January 3, 2013 at 10:48 pm #890991At a goodwill??? Nice!!! Never thought to look there. You can get a mirco-fiber towel or soft washrag and wet it. Wipe it down like that shouldn’t hurt it. and the hard to reach places with a soft brisel brush.

Website: courtneymooreauthor.comJanuary 5, 2013 at 6:22 am #891172For value I’m not sure what a peacock colored emperor is worth. I can tell you I payed $240 for a black gold one with a chipped horn and new emperors from the online store go for $344. So I’d guess yours is probably worth in the $200-$300 range depending on condition and demand. Congrats on your great find and welcome to Windstones.
January 12, 2013 at 4:06 am #891579Thanks for answering my ? . I was guessing almost the same. He is so beautiful. I initially bought him to resell as I could tell right away he was valuable. Unfortunately I have no box or tag. Plus now I have fallen in love w him and all the beautiful art she and the Co. create after looking online…any advice on cleaning he is pretty dusty in a few places and I’m afraid to clean him w a damp cloth…
is that ok?January 12, 2013 at 4:30 am #891580Thanks for answering my ? . I was guessing almost the same. He is so beautiful. is that ok?The damp cloth is perfectly fine, I have cleaned mine with a soft, damp cloth for years and never had an issue. I usually use a makeup brush for light dusting, but when my dragons get dirty just a tad bit of water has always helped. Don’t use any kind of chemicals on them to clean them, of course. As long as it’s not one of the red dragons, or a rarer type, like a limited edition or OOAK piece, a wee bit of water should do the trick.

Thank you for this info, I find this useful as well.
Congrats Naughtykitten76! I adore the emperors, they are so regal. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Windstone at a thrift store, you found a killer deal!
January 12, 2013 at 5:49 am #891584I’ve cleaned several extremely dusty (or downright grubby!) Windstones using Q-tips dipped in distilled water (we have really hard tap water, which is why the distilled water). If the dirt is sticky, getting it wet and letting it sit for a minute before rubbing it away with the Q-tip usually works. I start by getting the flat surfaces of the scales clean, which can take two or three rounds of rubbing. For the tight crevices between scales, I tease out the end of the Q-tip into a tail and then push it down into the crevice using a toothpick. This method takes forever, but it is extremely safe.
That said, I know I have read posts by people who actually held the dragon under a running tap! But an Emperor is so big that it would be hard to do without hitting the tap or the side of the sink, plus you’d have an awful time keeping the felt pad dry.
