I just rescued this little guy from the attentions of our resident felines. While they were thrilled with the encounter, he did not seem quite as jubilant.
When I picked him up I thought the cats had broken or split open his tail. Upon further investigation, he wasn’t very happy about that either, I found that it was a natural mutation. What’s next? Wings?
He is now lounging amongst the thick stuff in our front flower bed.
It might not be a mutation, but rather a result of an incomplete break of his tail. If the tail broke at some point, when it was attacked, but incompletely separated from it’s body, then it might have triggered the regeneration response and grown a new bit of tail while the old one was still attached. Cool.
That part of the tail blends in really well with the twigs!
