Since I am new to PYOs, I did a lot of research on top coat/sealers, but I was wondering what everyone uses. I used Varathane on my foo puppy which looked very nice, but not quite shiny enough for my liking. What do you recommend?

What I have used in the past
      Gloss:

      • Varathane water-based sealer in Gloss (often used on polymer clay)
      • DecoArt Triple Thick Gloss Glaze

      Matte:

      • Krylon Matte Finish artist spray

      Satin:

      • Varathane water-based sealer in Satin
      • Sculpey brand Satin Glaze (for polymer clays)

Thank you for helping out a total newbie:)

I use either liquitex or golden’s gloss varnish. I tried a bunch of spray gloss coats on various pieces and have found I prefer the good old paint it on variety the best =)

I have three or four types of Krylon and I like it fine. 🙂 Their gloss is pretty glossy.

Yeah, I use Krylon. And if I find it’s not shiny enough I just spray on a little more and it gets shinier.

I usually use the Folkart waterbase varnish with a satin finish. If I want a really glossy finish, I use Liquitex gloss medium & varnish.

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

Thank you all! You have been exceedingly helpful. Decided to stick with the paint on type for now. Last night out of curiousity, I decided to try out my DecoArt Triple Thick on my foo pup and OMG perfect shininess! I’ll retake the pictures this weekend and post a couple here so you all can see.
