Hi everyone,
This may be a convoluted description of what I am looking for but if it is out there I am sure all the PYO painters would know this.
In the Blog the March 2011 Raffle prize image shown below has a black and white emp picture in the back ground. What I am wondering is is there a similar black and white image of the PYO keeper to practice patterns or color schemes on. Is there one already in existence that I don’t know about. Is this possible the even get??
Thanks for your help
January 29, 2012 at 5:11 pm #871655There is no print or drawing of a keeper, but what I’ve done in the past is take a photograph of a white, blank keeper (like from the store page) and phtotoshop different colors on it to play around with it.
Ditto, and for any PYO, actually.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

If this is something people are interested in, I can talk to John and Melody about getting them up on the site. This is something on their list, it just hasn’t worked its way up to the top yet. 🙂
This would be brilliant and ohh so appreciated Kiya. Would be incredibly helpful for laying out ideas without having to “practice” on the beautiful PYOs and end up making a disaster (Speaking for myself of course and no ill intent meant to the many talented artist on this forum). I just saw that image in the background and thought that it would be so helpful in the Keeper or any/all PYOs.
January 29, 2012 at 6:12 pm #871665that picture is pretty awesome! I am hoping Melody will make a print out of it. We’re long over due for some 2D Windstone art 😉 There is no print or drawing of a keeper, but what I’ve done in the past is take a photograph of a white, blank keeper (like from the store page) and phtotoshop different colors on it to play around with it.
Thanks for the advice Wolfen I appreciate it. I will have to try that but I am a really crappy photographer so it may no turn out “Good” HEHE I’ll give it a whirl though.
January 29, 2012 at 7:28 pm #871672I have asked this question myself since I got a PYO Keeper for Christmas and I am also afraid to start painting it without practicing on some sort of lineart first.
I sent a message to Melody through Deviantart saying:
I don’t really know where to ask this and I know your really busy, but I was wondering what you thought of making line-art’s for the PYO’s so that people could practice coloring them before they start working on the actual piece. I am getting my very first PYO for Christmas and I thought this would be really helpful for any first time painters.I have already tried making rough sketches of the keeper dragon to practice coloring him but I’m not very good at drawing all the details. I also tried printing out the picture of the keeper to practice coloring that but the details don’t really show up very well there either.
Thanks for your time!

I got a message Back from Melody saying:
Yes I have!
I actually did several coloring book style drawings, but we got stalled on this project because of copyright questions about it… I think we are being way paranoid, but that is what lawyers do to your head. I’ll bring up the subject again at Windstone.Like I said above, I’ve tried printing out the blank PYO pictures from the store and have been using that as a sort of lineart, but it’s really hard to see the details in the picture.
Hope this helps anyway! 🙂

I get what you mean Silver Fox, it does not print a great detail image and I really hope that we can get some line art for all of the PYO. It would be so incredibly helpful, especially to the “new to painting” individuals. I am scared to wreck a PYO because of my lack of skills. God I hope I have a little talent hidden somewhere in me.
January 29, 2012 at 8:13 pm #871681There was a PYO painter, way back when the first ones came out, who actually did draw them to use for just that purpose. She had shared the images with the forum but if I’m not mistaken, it was only the Griffin and the Kirin.
Unless she did more in the time that I was gone. I’ll try and do a forum search to see if they’re still on here somewhere.
January 29, 2012 at 8:15 pm #871682Yeah, I just keep pushing it off over and over again and I’m sure the person who gave it to me for Christmas is like JUST PAINT IT ALREADY! I just couldn’t live with myself if I made a mistake with it! XD
Good luck with your’s when you get to painting it!:)
January 30, 2012 at 7:23 pm #871788I have one that people can use, and I am willing to share, for both the Keeper and Griffin. And some old ones I did for the small dragon, wolf, and kirin.
Pm me for the info.
January 30, 2012 at 7:45 pm #871793I have been wanting to do that since we started making PYOs!
I have done a few drawings like the lineart you see there, of pyos and other pieces to be a coloring book!
I have hesitated because I don’t know the copyright ramifications of publishing free lineart to the world to download.
We could just publish them in a book form, but it would be an awfully expensive coloring book, if it was published through those self publishing places.
You can bug me all you want.January 30, 2012 at 8:24 pm #871805Well, if you wanted to, you could always post line art on DeviantArt and peole could print it off perhaps?

You can bug me all you want.Any work you create is automatically copy righted under US law. You should probably file the copy right as well (you’d need it filed if you had to do a legal action on it).
It doesn’t matter if you allow it to be downloaded for free or not – you could use Creative Commons to put together a usage guideline (so, if you want people to use it just for personal use, or only with accreditation or whatever).
You may want to ping your lawyer, but I don’t think as long as you host it on your site and not some place that says you give up certain rights by hosting there that you should be just fine.

Yours must be the ones I remember, I couldn’t find them with a forum searhc though…
January 30, 2012 at 8:58 pm #871814No, it wasn’t me. there was another person on here that had some she did, but they were on her personal website.
The ones I have made I never posted publicly because of the infringement issue. So any line art I share I would also ask people not to post publicly at all. You can share them privately, like if you need to show a commissioner what the colors would look like, but they couldn’t be for public display.

Thank you so much for your help Koshii. Mucho appreciated!!
