While unloading a couple boxes from my truck this evening, I looked up to quite a surprise.. a herd of about 40 head of Antelope, wondering what the hell I was doing, lol.. they were right off the edge of our ‘front yard’, I spooked them back a bit (Unintentionally) but they stayed close enough for me to grab my camera and get a snapshot, didn’t have my long lens on my camera (‘n I wasn’t gonna take the time to put it on) so the photo quality isn’t the best. Not long after, they disappeared into the brush… it’s amazing how easy it is for them to disappear out here! We don’t usually get much for bigger herds around the house..
Follow the link for the full photo if it doesn’t show up all the way. Most of the herd is over there —->

January 22, 2012 at 4:29 am #870213One would think I’d get used to em out here, but they never fail to amaze when I see them 🙂 especially in larger herds

Plains of Colorado 🙂 About 30 or so miles south of Cheyenne, WY.
January 22, 2012 at 6:40 am #870224my area is too overdeveloped for much wildlife, just mostly birds, squirrels and rabbits…wish I could see more interesting wildlife here….
4 things I'm looking for:
1. Mother Meerkat
2. production color Sitting Young Oriental dragons to be made in more colors besides VF, Brimstone would be awesome!
3. Female Griffin – Siamese with White
4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male GriffinJanuary 22, 2012 at 6:42 am #870225What a cool surprise. Are they proghorns? That’s just awesome, I thought they were super endangered.
January 22, 2012 at 7:26 am #870228Those are pronghorns 🙂 They are as common as sparrows (seems that way at least). I am glad they aren’t endangered, they are really cool animals. I went to Encampment Wyoming and to Denver Colorado this past summer, and they were everywhere.

XD Awesome!
— They are Pronghorn, and as Pam mentioned, very common around here! There is a herd that hangs out a few miles away that is probably close to 100-150 head..
You should see them in the fall/winter seasons, Pam! Summertime they’re all scattered about, one or two here and there.. when they’re herded up is when it’s really cool to see them! (imo. Unless you get to spot a mama and her baby, that automatically takes above all lol!)My bfs place is in the city, so I *love* being able to escape out here! I’m very partial to my open spaces ;p … Last summer there were two young American Badgers that had a den about a quarter mile away… that was really cool! The Wildlife and the storms I could never get enough of out here! (Exception of rattlers and tornados, I’m perfectly happy without either of those! lol)
January 22, 2012 at 8:40 am #870232First time I’ve tried this.. so here’s to hoping FB isn’t totally stupid, since it’s the one place I’ve been able to get my vid uploaded properly, lol. Here’s the lil vid I took of the Badger, I was in my truck when I took this, I think this one was about as curious about me as I was about it.. but I wasn’t going to leave the safety of my truck and test my luck too much 😉 (These guys can be vicious as hell. This one is quite young, which is probably why it didn’t come charging out chattering and growling at me, lol.) Was a really cool experience! I have a couple super cute photos of it too, I’m just not sure where in my files it is right now! (My photography folders are in a serious need to sorting and organizing!) lol

Love pronghorns, you are so lucky to get a shot of a whole herd like that, they have the best antlers and babies are just *squee*
We get pronghorns just south of here but I’ve never seen a live one.January 22, 2012 at 7:30 pm #870263I remember when my mom first saw them on tv and was surprised they were from here . I knew they were . I adored watching shows like Wild America . Shows about wild life I loved watching . She loves birds .

Yeah, it’s really weird, we’ve had an abnormally warm winter thus far with only a handful of snow storms! Closer to Denver has gotten a little more snow, but still has been abnormally warm… So if you’re tired of cold and don’t mind 40-50deg F weather, come to Colorado! ;p haha
I used to watch those shows too Sasha, once upon a time I was a walking animal encyclopedia! haha, not anymore though.. only random info has stuck with me! lol. The people in the mountains are the ones who get the crazy stuff! I have a friend that lives just up the mountain (About a half hour drive from my bfs place) ‘n his place gets Elk, Deer, the occasional Moose, there was rumor of a Wolf, he’s seen the Mountain Lion, Bob Cat and several Black Bears…
I think I’m ok living where the only predatory animals are coyotes and the rarely seen badger, lolJanuary 22, 2012 at 11:38 pm #870293Around here are hawks , red foxes , woodchuck , egrets and I adore seeing gray pelicans on the river every spring/summer . Eagles too .
