Hi Everybody! I am brand new to forum although I have always kept an eye on the website. I was first introduced to Windstone about six or seven years ago when I inquired about a beautiful dragon statue my friend had displayed in his home. He introduced me to the world of Windstone, and since then I have been hooked.

      I have a confession… I don’t actually own a Windstone… yet…

I’ve always wanted one (particularly a dragon… well actually a whole family) and I regularly check the site and ebay to see what’s new and available. My hesitation has always been my ignorance. I want to make sure that I invest my enthusiasm in the right way and that I don’t get taken advantage of. I will be honest, I don’t know what colorations are in production or retired, I don’t know what makes a piece rare. I know in most artwork a certain number of production pieces will be signed and numbered, is that the case with Windstones as well? I did notice a lot of pieces are numbered and have an item number.

What I do know is that I have always been smitten with the White Dragons, but since I think it will take me some time to acquire one, I am looking for an entry level collectable. I’m also a fan of the Ki-Rins. I want to learn the secrets of Windstone Edition collecting and bring a little magic into my home and hopefully be able to pass that on one day as well.

I am putting myself in your surely capable hands for guidance. I will warn you that I tend to ask a lot of questions and my spelling is awful, so I thank you in advance for your patience.

Welcome! I’m rather new too and also don’t own a Windstone yet. =) But there are several fun ways to possibly win one, like the monthly raffle or Quest!

              Thank you for your greetings!

Twindragonsmum: I was looking at some of the other introductions and you always have the CUTEST welcome pictures! I’m flattered that i got to receive one!

Branzyboo: The site is very useful! I was doing quite a bit of reasearch last night and that was one of my main tools. Also Astral Castles encyclopedia has been very helpful.

Maybe this is a question for a new thread, but since I’m posting I might as well ask. Does anyone know anything about the Pink Pearl Coiled Mother Dragon? I found mention of it on the ravnheart site:

              http://ravnheart.com/windstone/index.php?act=details&id=827

but hard as I try, I cannot find any other information on the edition. I’m wondering what years it was produced and also how many? Because I cant find any information on it, suggests to me that it was very limited production (sad). Also I noticed it has pink/lavendar eyes like the pearly pink lap dragons but unlike the pearly pink curlies which have either the green (first batch) or yellow eyes which stuck me as interesting and made me wonder if there were other differences in the coloration as well.

              Any Ideas?

Welcome to the forum! I must warn you, Windstones are like potato chips…you just want one…and then you just want one more….and before you know it, you have a room full or a house full! 😉

The pink coiled mother dragon is a special ebay piece. There are only 2 in existance. I’d guess it was painted by former Windstone head painter, Olympia Carapaia. She no longer paints for Windstone, so her pieces are even more hard to come by.

There are 4 types of Windstones-production (avaliable at any dealer and through Windstone’s online store), retired (no longer being made), limited production (only avaliable direct from Windstone in small batches) and limited edition (signed, often numbered pieces sold directly from Windstone through ebay…and sometimes second hand from collectors. These are often called “test paint pieces”)

Just because a piece is retired doesn’t mean it is rare or sought after, or worth much more. The peacock dragons are retired, but they were produced for so long, they are very common. The green and brown dragons are probably the next most common, then the emerald and white, then red fire, rainbow and ruby. Ruby dragons don’t come up for sale all that much from what I have seen. I guess the people that have them, love them and dont want to let them go. The Red Fire is valuable because it was produced for the shortest amount of time, and retired because Windstone had a problem with their red paint bleeding and fading.

Of the white dragons, all but the old warrior and rising and sitting spectrals were production pieces. The three above were limited production avaliable only direct from Windstone. The rising spectral and old warrior were signed. I paid $450 for my old warrior last year, and I felt I got a great deal on him (he originially sold for $300) but one sold on ebay recently for over $1,000 O.O holy smokes!

The family dragons (male, mother, young and hatchling) are the most common, and the coiled mother seems to be the hardest to find in the whites. Ive been looking for one for a while and haven’t seen one come up for sale. Personally, I would expect to pay in the $50-$100 range for a white male or mother dragon-but if you desperately want one and can’t find one, often people offer to pay higher prices in hopes of convincing someone to sell theirs. The lap dragon in white doesn’t come up super often either, but she really is beautiful! I would recommend trying to find one for your first Windstone.

If you ever have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask! Everyone here is super awesome and you’ll always find someone who knows the answer or can find it for you ^_^

Thank you so much WolfenMachine for the wealth of information! It is GREATLY appreciated!

Facinating that they only made two of those pink pearl coiled mothers.

And it is nice to have some direction in my search for my first piece. I really can’t thank you enough. As much I love Windstones, the world of Windstone can be quite intimidating and it is a huge relief to have even the smallest of topics clarified. Thank you again for your guidence.
