So I have a question for people who know more about oriental dragons than I do. I have a light Peacock young-not a doubt in my mine. I recently won another young, who I though was dark from the pic-the seller later told me he was light. I had a potential buyer for him, so I wasn’t worried about rehoming my second light young. He arrives today, and I open him up, and he is much darker than my young, but not as dark as my dark Peacock adult oriental.

I’m not sure where the camera is at the moment, so I can’t post pics. When my roomie gets home, I think she knows where the camera is, so I can hopefully post pics tomorrow. But my question is…Is there a medium Peacock oriental color smack dab in the middle of light and dark?

Or, does anyone have a comparison picture of 2 dark and 2 light young orientals side by side? I’m thinking they varied, as the regular western-dragon type of peacock coloring varied

Here’s the slightly blurry picture that I took beofre I shipped the young one out. I figured he was the light because he seemed closer in color to the Sun Dragon, but I never had another young oriental to compare him too. I’m curious to see a picture of the two youngs side by side as well.

From what I can remember, they didn’t make any of the Suns in the darker colors. They were only made in the light peacock, emerald (no jade), and ruby.

Setsuna, I had an Oriental Dragon for two years that I thought was a Dark. It wasn’t till I found a Light Young to go with it, that I realized my Adult was actually Light, not Dark! I think the transition from Light/Dark wasn’t overnight. Most of the Pea. Orientals I’ve seen, it’s easy to tell what they are, but some of them are a little more ambiguous!

Here’s all my Peacock Orientals together, minus my Dark Adult, which I got after taking these pics. They show the different shades pretty well though. 🙂

This is how my collection looked for a while–my room never gets direct sunlight, so I always thought the Adult matched the Young better than the Sun, it was hard to see the greens on the scales that indicate it’s Light:

…that is, till I put the Light Young up on the shelf with them. Suddenly the Dark Young is the odd one out:

Looking at the three of them, my Adult seems to be more of a median between the Youngs. The Light Young has tons of the fuschia that I love, the Adult is a little less bright but still perdy.

So yeah, there seems to be some evolution in the Light/Dark Peacock color on Oriental Dragons. 🙂

Thanks for posting the pics – It’s great to be able to see the contrasts that come up in some of the sculpts!
