I know Melody has always had problems with the hatching dragon sculpt, and recently when talking to a local brick and mortar dealer he said that she had discontinued the sculpt entirely for regular production.
But the baby dragons, all of them, hatching royalty, fledgies etc, have always been insanely popular. Smaller less expensive dragon sculpts have also been insanely popular like the curled dragon. Some of us just can’t afford to collect many 200 dollar dragons.
Is it possible to create a baby dragon sculpt along the same lines as the hatching dragon, same proportions and body type, but without the eggshell and any other annoying aspects that have frustrated the castings and painting?
I envision a lil baby dragon, maybe even an echo of the crouching griffin, omg that would be so adorable!! We need more dragons in the >$75 range.
October 14, 2011 at 12:06 am #859992I’d squeek for this. I’d love to see dragons just like the hatching emperor, empress and kinglet just without the shells. They have such cute little faces.
October 14, 2011 at 1:50 pm #860042I think a crouching baby dragon, or even a lying down sleeping one, would be adorable. Just imagine a fledgling crouching like a playful kitten and try not to squee! 🙂 They would sell like hotcakes.

October 14, 2011 at 7:33 pm #860075Yes . I am, or was, working on two new ones, a “Baby” dragon since we don’t really have one, and a simpler hatching dragon. The hatcher is designed to be cast and painted in in two parts, egg and dragon , and glued together. That would avoid all the issues with painting the sharp edges of colors.
The baby looks exactly like a younger, smaller version of the fledgling.CHEAPER 😀
These two would be the about same size as the hatcher.
I sculpted them out of epoxy clay, but it is being a pain to deal with, because I haven’t gotten used to using it yet. I don’t know if I will continue in this material or start over.October 14, 2011 at 7:35 pm #860077:O
I’ll take one in every color please!!!

I don’t buy multiples of the same sculpt, with the exception of the fledgling because it’s so cute. I would definitely buy baby dragons in virtually every color if they look like little fledgies. 🙂
