Most of you who have met me, did so at the worst time. Tundra my husky of 11 years had recently passed away and I found PYOs. I had a set of Kirins for years, but never knew a community existed. Those of you who have met me have always been very kind to me. I thought I would update you incase anyone wondered where I have been since August…
I am now 32 weeks along in my pregnancy with my little girl Lula. I caught a terrible cold in August. Sick + Preggers= blah! In the first week of August, one of our ‘unadoptable’ cats who had been outside for a few months (we live on a safe ranch for him to do so) had gotten a back injury when a tree fell on him. Despite my vets best efforts, and mine as well it was decided to let him go.
On my way home from the vets, I got extremely sad. I had worked through being pregnant to save another 10 lives before I couldn’t do it anymore, I had sacrificed everything I thought I could to save more lives, and I was still losing ground. I had not been to the shelter since March, because we have had our rescue shut down. So right then I decided to put the kids in daycare for the day, and go walk some dogs, and pet some cats up at our spca (which has an 80% kill rate) One of the highest kill shelters in the nation.
So I walk into the rescue corrdinator’s office, and she looks at me funny. She was happy to see me, but confused…She asked, “Did we call you?” I said no, I am just here to visit…she says well I have something to show you…
Now, in husky rescue most of what comes into the shelter here is a mix, and puppies even mixed are very rare…
We walk into another office and there in a crate is a pure white momma husky, and her 4 darling blonde (light red) and white pups. The moment I saw the splash coated one, I knew I would do whatever I had to do to save her and her family’s lives. So I connected with one of my fellow husky rescues that is about 3 hours south of me. They agreed to take them on! i was stoked, and I knew they were safe.
I had decided to keep the pup I had spied…just so happens it was a girl. I named her Autumn before I even brought her home. She was born on July 29th. Little did I realize Tundra’s original name had been Spring, and she was born on August 2nd…
I transported the bunch the 3 hours south, and realized that the mom’s milk was poor, so I took Autumn home to bottle feed her. And here she has remained…
Sadly her siblings all passed away. They were born prematurely, which is rare in dogs…but her siblings all passed in about a month or so after I had seen them. Autumn had under developed eyes, which didn’t open until 25 days of life (normal is starting at 9 days)…but now she is healthy and happy.
Needless to say, I am back and ready to get back into Windstones and everything I have missed. Healthy now, and no more cold!
I thought I would share her happy story with anyone who was bored enough, or loved huskies enough to read it. Hope you like her success story! 🙂
She is 7 weeks old in the first and last picture, and the middle one she is almost 9 weeks old.

September 28, 2011 at 2:38 am #858325What a little sweetheart . Autumn is a beautiful pup . I had a part husky dog . Her mother was a siberian husky .
I hope she lives a long healthy life with you .
September 28, 2011 at 4:11 am #858328Thank you all so much! She came when I needed her most, and I believe Tundra was watching over her. I think she is beautiful! I had never seen a light red husky in person till her, I’d only ever seen the coppers. She is a rare and precious little baby to me. Thank you all for your sweet words of congratulations, I couldn’t possibly feel any luckier!
As far as lil Ms Lula goes, she is healthy as can be despite me being so sick for almost 2 months. She comes in November so I am getting very excited to see her cute little face! 🙂
September 28, 2011 at 5:02 am #858333What a stunningly beautiful little dog. It is wonderful you found her, but how sad about the rest of her family. It’s hard when you can’t save them all.
September 28, 2011 at 5:14 am #858334Chuck (the lady who runs the other rescue) and I have been friends for a long time, and it broke her heart. She hasn’t lost a pup since 1981, but because of the circumstances that they came into the world, its not suprising to lose some…just never expected all of them. I have a picture of her siblings, but not the rights to post it somewhere other than to my own facebook. They were all adorable. Chuck and I put her 40 years and my 17 years of experience together and still couldn’t save them, neither could the vet that treated them at his house. Her little sister Dulce fought the hardest and lasted till almost 8 weeks old. But when the necropsy revealed the organs of a 4 week old puppy, it was then determined the litter had been born too early. Autumn has gone through the ringer of blood tests and medications, and has made it…just wish that I had offered to take all the pups, and bottle fed them all, but I know this far along in my pregnancy and with me being sick at the time there was no way I could have kept up with all 4, bottle feeding every 3 hours for weeks on end. Just really wish they would have made it. But it makes me that much more thankful for Autumn. Her mom is doing very well, and she is already up for adoption! She is a great dog from what the foster tells me! Well mannered, good with cats, kids and dogs…couldn’t ask for a better husky.
September 28, 2011 at 5:17 am #858335It is a shame the others didn’t make it, but you did everything you could, and that just happened to be enough to save only 1. Autumn is a very lucky little girl to have you for her new mommy. I have every confidence you’ll provide the best home she could have wished for.
And congratulations on getting so close to having your baby. Only 2 more months! 🙂
September 28, 2011 at 12:28 pm #858341She’s a beauty! Congrats:)
