If an item has a maximum purchase quantity per customer limit on it, please respect the limit. We put these limits on items when we know that we do not have enough of the item for everyone who has expressed interest in it. Please do not come up with creative ways to secure more than the amount we are alloting per customer. We do notice these things and it’s very unpleasant. Be nice. Play fair. Treat others as you would like others to treat you. Please be respectful of our efforts to serve all of our customers.
September 1, 2011 at 2:45 am #854857People are STILL trying to do this? > : ( Cmon guys.
I emailed Susie earlier to see if it would be OK for me to get 1 from this next batch, since I didn’t get the 2 limit on the batch from 8/30.
She asked me not to, and you know what? I respect that. There will be more grab bags if we squeak for them so please, dear god, let the poor people who have missed out on batch after batch of these things get one!
This isn’t directed at anyone in particular because I have NO idea who is attempting these things, but really.. please.. whoever it is, think of the people on here that haven’t gotten a chance! Thanks <3

I realize those are strong words but it peeves me to think about this. I think most of us were respecting the limit and were hoping/trusting others were doing so too. When hot items sell out extra fast, it’s at least consolation to think that the batch was distributed fairly amongst those who were lucky enough to get that ‘purple hippo’.
Edit: Hannah, you bring up a good point. I was hoping to try for one of these, but I did purchase from one of the older batches before these new interference colors. Susie, could you clarify this? I am dying for one from this batch, but if the limit extends to those older batches I’ll restrain myself….

I don’t think that’s what Susie was getting at – I think she’s saying if you’ve already ordered from THIS batch, not to order any more. I think if everyone ordered 1, everyone would be able to get one! Unfortunately since there’s the 2-per rule and since somehow people have been attempting to get around even that limit, that there are a lot of people who still haven’t gotten one.
I’m not trying to speak for Susie though, and I think that if you order one you shouldn’t feel bad, but that’s just my opinion 🙂

I think of the 25 Babies yet to come as stragglers from the “same batch.” I imagine Susie is swamped, but maybe she will clarify this if she gets a chance.
This group seems to be wildly popular judging from the Flea Market posts, so I am sure Melody will do more as soon as she can get her breath. (Fingers crossed.)
September 1, 2011 at 4:24 am #854866What do you get your wife for your wedding anniversary when your wife only likes Windstones? Would you get her Windstones?
TO CLARIFY THE ISSUE that is getting blown out of proportion here is this:
I placed a Windstone order yesterday to get my wife (who is a very social forum member) the things she talks ENDLESSLY about for our anniversary next month. She didn’t know anything about it until she received an e-mail basically telling her off for being sneaky for placing more than one order for the same household. Needless to say she was confused by the email and of course upset. I told her I was the one who placed the order from my personal Windstone account. She was still upset, then she saw this thread and instantly felt called out publicly on the forum. The point of making these things is to get them sold, right? Always having a high demand for an item means more get sold and the business prospers. If you’ve found a product that is as wildly popular as these things, focus on it! Why tell off the customers for forking over hundreds of dollars for them?!
I could understand if my wife was a troublemaker, but she’s been faithfully collecting these things for over 10 years. I’m upset that my wife was made to feel like a heel and she’s upset that a company she’s stood by for so long would make her feel that way. Just because two packages are going to the same address doesn’t mean they were placed by the same customer. To be called “unpleasant” and “disrepectful” is hurtful. All this over sparkly little horses? I don’t get it! Sorry I spent my money here, I promise I won’t do it ever again.September 1, 2011 at 4:44 am #854868Well, I am sorry that you and your wife feel this way over the situation. And I’m sorry for being hasty in what I wrote, truly.
No one had a way to know it was you or your wife specifically (I actually still don’t know which forum member she is); no one named names. The original post was a general message; perhaps there was more than one party making multiple purchases? I have no way of knowing. The concept was upsetting to me and some other forum members, who wait patiently for these limited batches of sculptures, and try to play fair when the staff imposes quantity limits.
Melody’s sculptures _are_ very special to a community of very devoted collectors, and the staff goes out of their way to see that as many customers as possible are able to purchase these beautiful sculptures.
In the past, there have been instances of people purchasing multiple pieces, and selling them for profit, which caused a stir in the community. This is what stirred the response to this post, not because someone ‘called you out’ here on the forums. It’s a bit of a tender spot here in the community, since we consider these pieces artwork, and don’t like to see other people taking advantage of Melody’s artwork for personal profit, at the expense of other collectors who really love the pieces. Sort of like scalping tickets, I suppose.
I am not implying you were doing this. It’s pretty clear this was a misunderstanding.
In a “gift of the Magi”-type situation that you find yourself in, I can certainly agree that you and your wife didn’t do anything wrong. 🙂 It’s a contentious topic among the collectors, but I really do feel bad that you feel personally attacked. I wouldn’t want to see a collector, or even a collector by proxy, be put off from Windstones because of a misunderstanding. I’m sorry.
September 1, 2011 at 4:51 am #854869Alphawolf, you aren’t alone. It’s different circumstances here, but my significant other ordered two of his own this time. He collects too, though not quite as ‘nuts’ as I am (his dozen or so to my over two hundred). So yes, there are more than ‘2’ coming to my household. But his are his, and mine are mine. He’s heard me wax lyrical about these grab bag unis for months and this time he wanted two of his own. We don’t even like the same things(he likes pretty much the exact opposite unicorns that I like), so if he trades any, it will be for something he likes(His screenname is cmndrhavok(i think) but I dont think he’s posted yet. he’s not forum social). I’m not going to point out this post to him, because he doesnt need to feel like he did something wrong in wanted 2 of these grab bag unicorns(his first unicorns at that!) for his own little collection.
However, I wasn’t chastised by email. I am respecting the request that those who ordered this batch, not order when they release the last 25.
However, the next full batch is fair game!
September 1, 2011 at 4:59 am #854870Wampus, my S.O.s in the past have all thought I was freakin’ nuts in the head for loving Windstones. I really love the idea of your husband liking them and getting into them through you.
Thanks for the alternative perspective. 🙂 I’d rather think of a bunch of hubbies excited about Unicorns as a reason for multi-purchases, as it seems to be in at least two cases here.
September 1, 2011 at 5:07 am #854871I wasn’t trying to make you feel bad, chrisherself. It’s just a frustrating incident.
The topic of this thread is similar to the e-mail received this afternoon, so I KNOW it was directed towards my wife SPECIFICALLY. What hurts is that it’s assumed that it was done out of sneakiness. The only thing sneaky about it was me trying to get a great gift, one that I KNOW won’t disappoint. They weren’t purchased to be held for ransom on ebay. Heck, they’re probably going to get traded here on the forum like the last one I got her.I never had the need to post here before tonight, but it was such an upsetting incident that something needed said. I only started this account to buy gifts for my wife without her knowing (and the occasional old warrior for myself, LOL).
September 1, 2011 at 5:15 am #854873Oh my. I feel like the comments that I brought up may have been misunderstood. I was NOT trying to speak for Susie, so please don’t take my opinion as calling anyone out – I have no idea who got what, but it seemed to me that Susie had a good reason for posting this and thinking that someone was trying to circumvent the rules that have been put in place.
No names were named here, and no one was spoken about publicly. I have no idea who Susie was talking about and I doubt anyone here (except that person’s S.O.) knows either so I don’t think anyone should feel singled out.
I assumed that there was a definite incident of someone attempting quite blatantly to get around the 2 item limit – I know that Windstone has had the “S.O.” discussion come up before (particularly with the raffle, which is much the same type of subject) and also thought that they would totally understand if two people from the same household ordered things from the store. It seems entirely possible that this is just a misunderstanding of the message Susie was trying to convey.
In any case, I certainly don’t think that Windstone meant to single anyone out for this – it was just a public service announcement and reminder for people to respect the limits on products.
Also in regard to something said in an earlier post – yes, Windstone wants to make a profit! However, they have a seriously loyal fanbase who foams at the mouth at the thought of just about everything that gets released. As far as I can see it, the limit on buying certain items is a means to keep that loyal fan base happy because I think we provide a decent chunk of their income. In other words – it’s not always about selling things as fast as possible, but of keeping your regular customers happy 🙂

I have about 5 large solid colored dragons on a bookcase, she has over 100 bright multicolored things all over the house. Chances are if she doesn’t like it, I will.
September 1, 2011 at 5:59 am #854875We are happy that we are selling out on these unis, however is can also be very frustrating when not everyone gets one (because that makes unhappy customers and fights always seem to get started). So, when we have a 2-per rule on a super-hot item, and then we see two orders come in for 2 unicorns each, with each order going to the exact same address and being paid for with the same paypal account, it looks really suspicious.
We don’t have anyone else to paint GB unis except Melody. She has been trying to get new things sculpted, so between that and being only one person, there is no way that we can fulfill the GB demand quickly. Trust me, if we could, we would be pumping out 50 a day until they stopped selling.

September 1, 2011 at 6:34 am #854878Please forgive me, I was not singling anyone out with this post, MANY apologies to AlphaWolf (I feel terrible to have spoiled your surprise and your opinion of us). This post was meant as a general “please play by the rules” request for anyone who is thinking about bending them. I apologize if it’s offensive, but when we see more than one order going to an address we get suspicious that rule bending is going on. (That is what I mean about “unpleasant” – that is an unpleasant thought.) And you must remember that at the same time we see 2 boxes headed for the same place, we’re hearing from upset customers who found the item sold out… Again, I am not addressing anyone in particular, nor am I referring only to the recent batch of unicorn orders, although I was inspired to say something because I noticed an increase in this type of order.
The August 30th batch of Grab Bag Baby Unicorns: I think it would be nice to let the people who missed them August 30th have a chance on the remainder when they go into the store in a few days. So please refrain from ordering if you snagged one on August 30th. (It’s o.k. to order if you got one from a previous batch, I’m just talking about the August 30th batch.)
