August 23, 2011 at 6:55 pm #854177I guess I totally missed it! I was out on an errand and, as I was walking into the front door of the building, they were evacuating everyone. I must have been driving and missed it. : I did however get to enjoy sitting outside for an hour under a tree.
August 23, 2011 at 7:17 pm #854180Oh yes, we’re maybe 150 miles from the epicenter here near DC. Nobody knew how to react! I came home expecting to find Windstone puree on the floor in front of my shelves, but everything seems to be OK. I hope Wampus didn’t get any damage( she’s a lot closer to the center than I am).
August 23, 2011 at 7:35 pm #854184I felt it too! My whole house started trembling! Luckily, everyone and everything is okay though!
August 23, 2011 at 7:41 pm #854185I’m happy you guys are okay. I’m working in Chicago and of course am far away, but it does make me wonder when the midwest might get a big earthquake. Take care everyone!
August 23, 2011 at 8:02 pm #854186The first and only one I ever felt was here in IL . Scared me . New Madred (spelling) fault which once in a blink of an eye moved The Mississippi River and killed hundreds . That is terrorifying.
August 23, 2011 at 8:22 pm #854187I know a lot of people on the West Coast experience these kinds of things on a somewhat regular basis. (well not regular, but you know what I mean) For a New Englander, it was like the world was coming to an end! I can’t imagine what a REAL major earthquake must be like… just utter terror, totally helpless, and absoltely nothing you can do to stop it. You realize how small, like a tiny flea, you really are when the Earth gives you a little shake.
We’re all totally fine, I guess the quake was actually in Virginia and I’m in Massachusetts so it was just a little bit from what really going on. I was at work, but my sister called and said everthing in the house was shaking. Not falling off the shelf, but moving nonetheless.

Danny was asking me what the heck I was doing. I had no idea it was an earthquake until I tried to call my grandparents and I couldn’t get through on my cell phone. I could text and get on the internet but I couldn’t make a phone call until maybe two hours after it happened. When I did get home all the dolls I had on top of my display cases had fallen but lucky for me none of the windstones were damaged.
August 23, 2011 at 8:38 pm #854190It was 1811, I think Sasha. We have an old history book that talks about it. There were sandboils and blasts, the river flowed backwards for about an hour and changed its course. Fortunately at that time, this area of the country was even more rural than it is now and not many people were hurt (mostly because there was nobody here).
August 23, 2011 at 8:48 pm #854192Uh yeah, the epicenter is 30 miles from where I live. I DEFINITELY felt that one! No damage to people, pets or windstones though. No damage to the house that I can find. It shook us pretty hard though. I’ve felt one here before in 2003 but it was nowhere near the same strength as this one!
August 23, 2011 at 9:47 pm #854197Didn’t feel a thing last year, didn’t notice anything this year either… I must be earthquake-deficient.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

“The Weather Channel says yesterday’s east coast earthquake was caused by an unknown fault line running under D.C. and through Virginia. It is now being called Obama’s Fault, though Obama will say it’s really Bush’s Fault. Other theories are that was the founding fathers rolling over in their graves or that what we all believed to be an earthquake was actually the effects of a 14.6 trillion dollar check bouncing in Washington”
Not meant to make anyone upset, but I was rolling on the floor after I read that.

My first thought was that a large truck had just gone by the house, and then when I felt my chair moving I realized a truck couldn’t possibly have that effect on our house!! I knew what it was immediately after ruling out a truck, even though I’ve never felt an earthquake (to my knowledge) before. I guess it’s one of those human instinct things 🙂

I’ve lived on the West Coast all my life and they are no less terrifying to me O.O I hate earthquakes! So viscerally frightening. They really do remind you how insignificant you are.
