Fed Ex has a new service called “Hold at a Fed Ex location.” I used this a few weeks ago; and it not only works, but there was no extra charge to use it. Basically, the package is sent to the buyer at the address of the Fed Ex Office that the buyer chooses, and it is picked up there.
I took the buyer’s name, the address of the Fed Ex Office location she wanted to pick up the package, and her contact telephone number. The buyer’s address is not used at all, so there is no possibility of a delivery mix up. The only form I filled out at the Fed Ex Office was actually the mailing label that was put on the package. The buyer’s telephone number is put on it also, and the package cannot be sent without it.
The buyer is notified by that telephone number when the package arrives at the designated Fed Ex Office and has five business days to pick it up. It must be signed for, with ID shown, and can be picked up at any time that particular location is open. The one closest to me is open M-F until 11:00 and Sat-Sun until 9:00, so they have very flexible pickup times.
This would be ideal for people having any type of delivery problems, people expecting to be on vacation when a package arrives, and particularly people worried about possible theft.
