How on earth did he get on the roof? Other than being stupid… why are these people allowing the dog to be up there??

Did animal control respond?

Maybe you can call the non emergency number for the police, and see what they advise.??

“See you next tuesday” that took me a minute to figure out, but OMG they SAID THAT TO YOU? I didn’t even know that word until I was an adult and they shouldn’t either! People who don’t want to take care of their pets and children should *NOT* have them. There are tons of people out there who would give those poor kids and that poor dog a loving home. But to leave that poor dog on the roof? |(

There is a dog near my work (which is not in the nicest part of town. It backs up to a VERY bad neighborhood where you don’t look anyone in the eye) that is kept in a pen all day. Its a big pen, but its all concrete and I very rarely see anyone out there taking care of him. I was fed up with it and was going to call Animal Control the next day, but the dog was gone. I thought “Well GOOD! He has an owner and the guy came to take him home” but no. The day after that he was back. Its unbearably hot outside already-too hot to be leaving an animal outside. I’ll never understand some people.

That sucks. Poor dog. Yeah, those neighbors are crap.

I have thoughts on how to deal with the kids. Some are more legal (child protective services, cops, etc.) and some aren’t, but totally legal. You know, it isn’t hard to set up an electric current (just enough to give a good zap) on a fence that you can turn on/off at will. J) You probably would need to put up a sign or something, but guaranteed the kids won’t believe it or won’t/can’t read it. Small video cameras to catch them entering your yard is actually pretty inexpensive to acquire and set up as well (for legal proof). I’d go for water guns, but that could escalate too easily, especially if those kids are as bad as they sound.

Kalandra, that deck has a door leading onto it. The dog probably just hopped the deck railing onto the roof. He either won’t, or can’t figure out how to jump back (depends on the dog). Doesn’t mean he could open the door (be it a screen inner door or not) to get into the house though.

That Poor Dog! A situation like that left alone is asking for a terrible end. I would do the same and call the non-emergency police line ans well as animal control until I got a response. Does you SPCA have investigators (here they do) I would also be calling the SPCA as well since they might be able to do something.

I sympathize with you about the kids. The last childcare venue I worked (and my last.) I had a lot of kids like that. I can sympathize with you about being called censored names by a 6 year old (was floored that he knew those words!). I feel sorry for the kids (and by extension society) since they seem doomed to perpetuate the stereotype (stereotypes all come from somewhere)
If you can, get some sort of surveillance to protect your yard and house. Maybe see if you can arrange to pick up any packages in the future directly from the depot?

On another note…. I really hope that ladder is a proper escape ladder. It looks like an extension ladder bolted to the side of the building….. :O
