I just wanted everyone who received a “back in stock” email from the store that the Grab Bag Young Unicorns were in stock, that we only had a very few and they are gone again. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but please press that “notify” button again. The Grab Bag Young Unicorns will be out of stock now for quite a long time. We will not be putting more in the store until we have a larger sized batch again. There won’t be any more “teaser” back in stock messages until we have a big bunch.

May 24, 2011 at 11:10 pm #846189Just out of curiosity, but why do tiny batches get put in the store? I’m not frustrated right now but I have been in the past when there have been very small batches of things in the store for mere minutes at a time. Just wondering why it still happens when Windstone (I’m pretty sure) knows how frustrating it is for some people.

In this case: We had 4 more of the Grab Bag Young Unicorns – why they were not ready when the rest of their herd, I do not know. Sometimes a few grow more slowly or are ill and stuck in the infirmary… We won’t have more Young Unicorns for a long time. I could keep these here for weeks, pawing inside their boxes because they want out, or put them in the store and send them to forever homes! Part of my job is to sell things. So I do.

I can add, in hopes that it helps to understand: Things at the Factory are not as they once were: the staff is small, the Factory is smaller, and work is FILLED with interruptions. There is a lot going on– everywhere– in different stages, and while organization is always a goal it is not always realistically achieved when actually making pieces (other than on the sales end, where Susie does a fantastic job). While it is not intentional that small batches are made, like Susie said sometimes things are just found– “hey here is a group of unicorns that are nearly done, just need eyes and horns!” Or “these guys look good, just need to finish them” or “Hey who put this group of 5 unis over here, lets get them sold we need this space!”, etc. (those are made up examples)
I can guarantee that no one at Windstone wants to frustrate you guys! Quite the opposite. At the same time though, sometimes things just need to get sold, even if there are only a few. It is not always clear WHEN a new batch will be made (I mean gosh I hate to even suggest it but some things have been years in-between batches, augh!) and if a small group is ‘held’ until there are more, the small group might be held for a long while. That takes up space, and risks them getting lost or forgotten. It happens. D:
