*Jennifer, please feel free to move this if it doesn’t belong here*

I’ve had a shipping mishap: A male unicorn that I sold to a fellow collector arrived with his horn bent. I had double boxed it and used shredded paper as packing material, tucking it snuggly around him and around the inner box, and I tried shaking the package to ensure that there was no movement, but it apparently wasn’t enough.

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has successfully shipped Unicorns without the original box.

Lots and lot and lots and LOTS of large-grade bubblewrap.

        Unicorn bubblewrap burrito.

Then box with packing peanuts. Then double box with more packing peanuts.

          Thanks Pam!

I’ve also had someone else recommend the unicorn bubble wrap burrito, so the next one I ship, I’ll try this way.

Some savvy shopping tips too– The best packing supplies for Windstones (IE large-bubble wrap, packing peanuts, thick-walled boxes) are also the most expensive at shipping supply stores. :/

The Container Store sells a HUGE bag of peanuts for $9.99. (Staples sells something a tenth of the size for the same price.)

I’ve also had fantastic luck buying bubble wrap from people on Craigslist, who bought it ‘retail’ for a project and only needed a little bit.

Does anyone know what became of the Windstone packing tutorial? If there were a way to, I would host it. That tutorial was just the BEST for sending to people you just bought from.

A version of the packing tutorial can be found on ebay here.

Thanks for the tips and links Chris and Pegasi, they will definitely be useful when shipping my next piece!

No problem. When the old online link for the tutorial went dead I uploaded it to ebay (with the original writer’s permission). I only wish I could have uploaded more of the pictures, but ebay only let’s you have so many and they re-sized them all too.

We need to write an official packing tutorial to be used on the website (for our as of yet unpublished FAQ page). The ebay tutorial pretty much says it all. Pegasi, could you PM me the author’s contact info? Maybe we could host the ebay tutorial right here on the Windstone site. The tutorial might need a few small alterations (nitpicky stuff) but we could use as many pictures as we want, and full-sized.
