So I’m starting to really want to get back into painting fantasy work, but I need a little strategy plan to know what’s best in terms of time investment. I was wondering if you guys could help me?
As fantasy enthusiasts, do you ever purchase fantasy work other than Windstones?
If so do you prefer traditional over digital art?
If you chose traditional, do you desire to own the originals or prints of them?
Do you commission fantasy art and if so traditional or digital?I don’t really have adequate examples of the difference between my traditional and digital works because past works aren’t what I’d call my current style save for the way I do icons. Well also I have two different styles in both traditional AND digital (outlined work vs real painting) but that’s because I change my style according to the feel I want of the image, and can easily replicate traditional qualities and save time doing digitally. But if people who are traditional fantasy collectors are still out and about I still want to give them that opportunity.

If so do you prefer traditional over digital art? I like them both about equally, though digital can be more affordable (but then how does one do a digital ‘original’, really?)

I usually get prints simply because they’re more affordable. I have a small collection of 5×7 and 8×10 prints at work that I can rotate in a frame in my cubicle based on the season/my mood…but then I also have a commissioned original by Nam/Jennifer hanging in my cube as well. Mostly prints at home.Do you commission fantasy art and if so traditional or digital?
Right now my fantasy art commissions tend more to sculpture than 2d art. But otherwise I’d choose strictly based on my enjoyment of the artist’s style/what they’re willing to depict, and not the medium.May 17, 2011 at 6:22 pm #845593I love both, I have commissioned digital and traditional, and I purchase prints. It’s all about what is available. I do not have funds often for the originals, so if it is something I really like, I will go for getting a print. I got an awesome poster from Daichym way back when, so worth it.
If I had the free cash to spend, I’d be buying a LOT more.

If so do you prefer traditional over digital art? I have no preference… it just depends on the look/style.
If you chose traditional, do you desire to own the originals or prints of them? It depends. If I can afford an original, then I’ll purchase it. If not, I’ll just get a print. I guess it also depends on how badly I want the artwork and if prints are even available. If prints aren’t available, and if it’s something I absolutely must have, then I’m willing spend a bit more then I normally would on an original. I would just have to weigh cost vs desire. LOL
Do you commission fantasy art and if so traditional or digital? I never have, but I think it would depend on price and style. Like you mentioned, some artists have different styles depending on the medium used.

Something you might want to consider with the digital art is getting it printed on canvas for a more “traditional” feel. 🙂

Okay so really I just need to get my arse into gear and crank out a bunch of multiple mediums. I definitely will have prints(including canvas) of all traditional work, but some might have shinies that cannot be reproduced with prints to make them special for the original collector :3
Thank you everybody! Cookies for all! If there’s any requests for what subjects you’d like to see my original take on just shout out! I will be posting new fantasy/animal works here soon enough =3
