Hi Melody! You had mentioned this in the thread that Griffinlover started but I wanted to make sure that you saw my question so I started a new one for it 🙂
I was just curious to know what PYOs you are working on making next or in the future? *bounces with excitement*

-uh, well there is another flap cat, but I am still undecided if we should make it as a pyo or not…
-there are the two wing bookends, I didn’t know what to do with them, so I thought they’d make a weird-but-fun pyo set. They are finished , we just need to find them.-the grand Pegasus, no way am I going to paint that one.
-maybe a castle,
-Oh! and there is another dragon, somewhere, like the Keeper.
-there is a hippogriff , but she is a long way from being finished, and I can’t decide if she will be a “regular” piece or a pyo
-a little celtic frog
Some of these sculptures are finished or nearly finished, some still need some work done to them.
I’ll probably think of others. This list doesn’t include all the pyos I am eager to start on, like an oriental dragon, pyo cats etc.
Hey, while we are on this subject, what do you all think of the size of the pyos?
I planned to have them all be small enough that people could easily hold them to work on them, but the Grand Pegasus is pretty darn big; about 1 foot long and over 14 inches tall… also, he would need to be more expensive than the other pyos, and shipping to YOUR customers might be more of an ordeal.
How do you feel about large pyos?April 21, 2011 at 9:54 pm #843082i don’t know about a large pyo. i know i am having a hard time just to finish a keeper because of its size. but i may be in the minority on that, time is never on my side when it comes to personal art time.
i would loooooove to have a pyo flapcat. it seems like it would round out the herd of what exists now to match the major selection of regular sculptures. but i almost would like a smaller cat… between the small and large ones already. just to keep them different.
April 21, 2011 at 10:25 pm #843089I can see larger pyo’s being harder for others to take on: they would cost more, more time to paint, and harder to sell in some cases.
I am one of the ones though that would love larger pyo’s, I could afford them, have fun painting them, and still am confident they would sell well. So I partly am hoping enough people would also be interested in painting larger pyo’s.
“-Oh! and there is another dragon, somewhere, like the Keeper” *faints from exitement*
and the winged book ends! I now have a book shelf so I could use some book ends!
April 21, 2011 at 10:43 pm #843091Oh my GOSH!! A hippogriff in the works!!!! I don’t care if its a pyo or production!
As far as pyo size I would like a large sculpt. I commission and don’t paint but I think it would be awesome to have the option of large pegasus!
April 21, 2011 at 10:46 pm #843093Well first off – I’m with Koishii with the fainting about the other dragon PYO – Squeeee!! It’s probably no secret that the dragons are my favorites. Also, a PYO Oriental would be FABULOUS!!!
As far as larger than Keeper PYOs, I would be all for it! I understand the shipping cost, and cost of the sculpt would go up, but I would love to paint one and I am positive that people would love to have them! I’m working on something now that is larger and heavier than a Keeper Dragon but I don’t mind working on it, in fact I love the challenge!
As far as PYO sizes in general, I think the Keeper is a perfect size – I prefer painting on them over the smaller pieces simply because it’s easier for me to detail larger areas on the Keeper rather than the tiny areas on a small dragon for example. It means more time and effort put into the piece because there’s more area, but I just see it as more room to be creative!
Besides, a grand pegasus??! AWESOME!! I haven’t painted many unicorns but I LOVE them and I’d definitely be excited to paint a pegasus!!
Thanks Melody!!

Please visit My Webpage to see my art and PYO's that I've done in the past!April 21, 2011 at 10:55 pm #843097As a buyer, not a painter, I like the smaller size of the PYOs. I know I would not get a larger unicorn even if it was available, because I dislike how large the Mother Unicorn is; I love the size of the smaller PYO unicorn.
My complaint about Windstones has always been their large size. There are many more pieces I would like to buy, but I do not have the room. Yes, they are beautiful, but they each take up a LOT of room.
April 22, 2011 at 12:23 am #843105I would try to paint at least one of each PYOs, large or small. Then it just becomes a matter of preference. Having a variety is important, that way, you have something for everyone.

I’m still really hoping for a Flap Cat PYO. I think with all of the cat lovers out there, it could potentially be a very popular item. I see a lot of people commissioning pyo artists to paint their kitties in Flap cat form 🙂 But I coukd be wrong…
And the prospect of another dragon PYO makes me very happy! *jumps up and down*
On the issue of size, I personally find the smaller one’s quicker to paint, and easier to ship. The Keeper was always a bit of a pain to send, but since inserts were made for him, it makes it a little easier. Cost of shipping is still an issue. Still, the idea of having a nice big Pegasus to paint is very, very cool.April 22, 2011 at 12:45 am #843111I think the Keeper is probably about as big as I want to paint. She’s heavy enough…but I’d still get one or two bigger ones if they’re made. I love the variety of sizes we have!!
April 22, 2011 at 12:58 am #843115*deep breath here* I still love the Muses and have 9 already and I find the smaller ones easier and faster to paint. I just finished my first PYO small dragon and I thought I was going to die. I finally got into the swing of it and it came out rather nicely.
I would love to see some more small ones like flapcats and more the size of the small dragons. How about a Muse size baby dragon without shell. There is no way I could even think of doing a Keeper although I do love them. I guess I will have to commission larger ones to be done for me…hahaha
April 22, 2011 at 12:56 pm #843140So glad those wing bookends are still on the plate, I’ve been looking forward to that for at least three years!
And ‘variety is the spice of life’ right? So I think a variety of PYO sizes is great, let each painter/buyer decide what they prefer to work with/collect.
April 22, 2011 at 2:57 pm #843152ooooh… I’m all about the wing bookends! I’d love the little celtic frog and the oriental dragon as well. 🙂
I like the smaller size PYOs because…
1) I tend to hold them while I paint.
2) They don’t take near as long to finish.
3) They also don’t take up as much room.Due to its size, I’ve only painted one keeper. With that said, 1 or 2 bigger pieces would still be nice to have. 🙂
*bookends… drool*
April 23, 2011 at 10:34 pm #843337Yeah, I think the PYO’s shouldnt be no bigger than the keeper. Maybe it can go a little bit bigger, but not much. I like the bigger ones cause I can do more designs (on the scales for example).
But I do hope theres maybe another wolf pyo (sitting) and pups in the future to match the one you already did. 🙂Author of “Moonlight Walkers” book and artist for the Trail of Painted Ponies Co.

I agree with Dragonmedly on this. I paint for myself, not for resale. I would enjoy painting one of everything. Please oh please let the hippogriff be a pyo!
The bookends and both oriental and ( ? ) dragon sounds great. I am pretty excited about this news. Also, as I dont paint for resale, the idea of a larger size pyo is very appealing. Every collection needs its “holy grail”, and a LARGE dragon or Pegasus would be the “holy grail” for many people. Thanks Melody. -
