I had posted the final photos of “Volcano” in the Sandbox before the forums moved over to the new site. I’m finally getting a chance to post these here, it has been such a busy month!
I worked on this guy off and on in between commissions over the past few months. “Volcano” is inspired by the volcanic lightning that can be found surrounding the eruption site and also within the ash plume. It is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in my opinion, and I truly hope to witness it in person at some point!
“Volcano” has light orange glass eyes and a topaz tail jewel. He has been varnished with a high gloss finish, and his felt pad is signed and numbered #1. In his paw he holds a very unique black & red rock found on the beach of Lake Michigan, drilled and fitted with a metal bail.
I included a close up of this rock along with twelve tiny black & red stone beads that flank each side. (The main photos don’t show these beads.) I was so happy to come across them, I was hoping to find some that matched the rock and these worked out very well. 🙂
“Volcano” #1 sold pretty quickly, and I had quite a few commission requests for him. Once my current list is finished I will begin working on more of these guys. 🙂
March 29, 2011 at 6:52 am #841050Good Lord! Every piece you do is even better than the last, and I don’t see how that’s possible! When I win the lottery I will have to get one of every single design you do!

Male Hearth....one day🤞Dream on.April 7, 2011 at 4:48 am #841915Really lovely, I love what you used as inspiration too.
Have you thought of doing one based on delicate 1800’s porcalin china, with the ones that were white with blue line art of flowers, patterns, and sceneries?
April 7, 2011 at 5:08 am #841917That would be awesome, maybe sometime we could do one as a collab! It would be fun to paint our own blue line art sceneries/patterns.
April 7, 2011 at 5:47 am #841920I think that would be totaly awesome 🙂
April 7, 2011 at 1:06 pm #841928Wow! Fantastic job on that Keeper! 🙂
April 7, 2011 at 1:40 pm #841932NIIIIIIICE! What about something in that pale, translucent jade from the same period? I can see it – I just can’t reproduce it…

April 7, 2011 at 3:49 pm #841941Ooo! I like 🙂 I also like twindragonsmums idea for a jade dragon. I think that would be really cool to.
April 7, 2011 at 10:02 pm #841968Awesome MG! This one really looks like she was just dug out of the ground! Too cool!

April 8, 2011 at 1:19 am #841988Nice! I like the black and white look, myself. The only PYO I’ve ever done (Checker the Muse) and I thought it turned out beautifully, flaws and all LOL. I like this dragon, they could hang together 🙂 Well done!! (as usual).
April 8, 2011 at 1:20 am #841989Learning still 😡 I think I posted in the wrong place LOL
I like the Black & White (clearly) lol My Muse, your Dragon – a date? haha 🙂 Beautiful!
April 8, 2011 at 3:37 am #841995Amazing work as always! I love how pure the white looks! It almost hurts my eyes! lol
April 8, 2011 at 4:12 am #841913Here is my latest PYO! I wanted to create a Keeper inspired by Ming Dynasty Chinese porcelain. She has been carefully “weathered” to give her the appearance of an ancient artifact, as if she is newly discovered and still caked with small patches of mud. She has been given multiple coats of high gloss varnish to enhance the appearance of porcelain glaze. She has metallic periwinkle eyes and a crystal tail jewel. In her paw she holds a strand of genuine Chinese pottery beads. She is one of my favorites! 🙂
Update: “Ming Dynasty” is now sold.
