Please visit My Webpage to see my art and PYO's that I've done in the past!January 4, 2011 at 7:53 am #835118So I’m pretty much done with my most recent PYO – a Keeper for a forum member who wanted one painted in the colors of “Haze” – the little purple dragon I did a month or so ago. Haze herself does not have any antiquing on her, but as I painted the Keeper I wondered if she (the keeper) could benefit from it.
At this point I know I don’t want to antique the darkest parts of her – the body’s pattern is almost completely interference based (you cant really see it with these cell phone pics but I’ll get better ones later) so I don’t want to mess with that, but I still wonder if her belly and/or her wing webbing would look better with antiquing. I’m thinking a light purple for the belly so it wouldn’t detract too much from the pretty lavender color that’s already there, and maybe the same dark purple as the body for the wings.
I keep going back and forth on it though, and I just don’t know what I should do!! What do you guys think? Does she need antiquing or is she fine as is?
Oh, I’m also waiting on some Metallic Lavender eyes to come in so I just put in some Metallic Teal so you won’t have to stare at empty sockets 😆 I’ll of course post pics when she’s done but she will have the same colors as her predecessor, whom I have taken a picture of with the Keeper 🙂 Sorry that the pics are so washed out looking >< I couldn't sacrifice too much light.. I think you get a good enough idea though.
(this other one was taken before I was finished with the Keeper but may have better quality in reference to colors)

Though I think the breast could use a little something, it doesn’t necessarily need to be antiquing, in the base color(purple?) to give it a little more character. I think Haze didn’t need it because the pink on the breast is broken up by the stripe down the middle. With the keeper the breast area is larger and completely unbroken color wise which to me makes it looks almost unfinished compared to complex paint job on the rest of her.
January 4, 2011 at 8:50 am #835120Thank you! 🙂 I grew to really love her over the course of painting her, so much so that I may make myself one as well.
I see what you’re saying about the chest area – I had thought of trying to do the same stripe as the one on the original Haze but the scales on that part of the Keeper don’t lend themselves to that without going much higher on the neck than I want to. I’m thinking maybe even just antiquing the pebble scales and not the broad scales may do the trick though. I’ll have to sleep on it 🙂 Thanks for the input FlamingDragon!Commission spots are currently closed! Please message me for details.

January 4, 2011 at 3:54 pm #835122You say the keeper is for a forum member, have you sent them pictures and asked them what they think? 😉 Just a thought.
But since you asked the question of everyone, I’d recommend antiquing the lighter areas (at least the chest/belly).
January 4, 2011 at 5:27 pm #835123I think you should ask the recipient’s opinion. In my opinion it would look stunning with a little purple antiquing on the light chest (and I think the teal eyes look GREAT!). I’ve loved everything you’ve done so far, Yeral!! 😀
January 4, 2011 at 6:12 pm #835124Yup, I asked the forum member first and she told me to do what I thought would look best 😆
I said I would likely ask the opinions of other forum members, but it sounds like you all have the same thoughts that I do, so I think I will try antiquing the lighter areas and leaving the rest alone. Thanks a bunch for the input!!
And thanks, skeeter! I like the look of the teal eyes as well but I had already ordered a new Keeper specifically so I could get a pair of the Metallic Periwinkle, and I was also saving the Teal for my next Keeper 🙂 I was surprised at how well they fit the color scheme when I put them in too!

The ‘flatness’ from no antiquing isn’t so noticeable on the wings because of the color shift. He’s beautiful though, and I also love the teal eyes!
January 4, 2011 at 11:17 pm #835126You’re not late at all pipsxlch! I posted this very late last night/early this morning (around 3am). I ended up doing just that – I’ve antiqued the chest and belly area (but not the light part of the tail) with a dark purple and I’m glad i did – it looks pretty good!
I’ll upload higher quality pictures to my PYO thread in the coming days when she’s got her eyes/gems. Thanks everyone!
