Question for anyone who can answer. Im wanting to put a black coat over my entire PYO . I cant afford an airbrush system and i sure dont want to paint it by hand in one solid color. Can anyone tell me if there is a good spray paint you can buy in a can ? & where do i get it? I was thinking of something from Walmart but i just dont know if its wise or not. Plus i dont have alot of options where i live besides Walmart. HELP

Whatever you do DON’T USE RUSTOLEUM!!! You have to use a paint that is says “PRIMER” I used a cheap Krylon one once and it worked pretty good. Only cost like 2 bucks too. I got it at Home Depot

          Got a busted Windstone?

I’ve used Krylon’s white spray primer. I’m actually not fond it. It makes the PYOs feel “dry” or “chalky” instead of “smooth” when I drag my paintbrush across it. This is a very personal thing. It may not bother anyone else, but I can’t stand the feel. If I’m priming white, I will actually do it by hand. I will use Citadel’s black spray primer though. I really like that one. 🙂

And for what it’s worth, I find American Accents has better coverage than Krylon. 😳 You learn real quick when you have to prep over a hundred art crafts for summer camp. LOL

drag0nfeathers – why not use Rustoleum? (I’ve never used it, but I bought a can of it to use on some cabinetry hardware I’m refinishing, and if it’s horrible awful no-good very bad stuff, I might return it unused and get something else 🙂 )

I think it’s because Winstones need to “breathe”. Rustoleum and other paints like it tend to seal the item and then it can’t breathe. Rustoleum, a believe was originally intened for metals and non-porus materials although they do make a Universal spray paint now. Always check the labels to be sure it’s suitable for ‘your’ project. Personally, I’ve never liked it. I’ve had limited sucess with it although others I know love it 😕 and it STINKS to high heaven. It’s one product you want to use and let cure outside.

Dracco, I would recommed a primer type matrial if you ready want to spray. Or check with an artist supply store, maybe they have a solution? Personally I suck at spray painting things so would just hand paint it 😳

When I do an all-black piece (or one colour base), I dilute the black with water and use a large brush. It goes really fast that way. I do 2 coats, which are both thin, so no hiding details, and with the black, no missing any little white spot. I learned my lesson 😈

Wouldnt it kinda come out a very light blackish grey then? I dont wanna hide the detail either but i do want it to be black. How much water to paint would you use ?

No, the first coat looks like a bad paint job and the second makes the whole thing look good. I have my gob of paint in the round painter thingie, then I add big drops of water at a time and mix, so when you put in your paintbrush, the paint doesn’t exactly drip off, but almost. Does that help?

I think so. Thanxs. Ill either try that or maybe maybe the primer everyone else talks about. You can get primer @ Walmart fairly cheap But….. i do already have black paint i can try it with.
