So what did they sell for originally? They were long gone before I found the forum, and I see the price on the one on ebay and it still hasn’t reached its reserve yet???

Sun Dragon Koi #3December 3, 2010 at 12:57 am #832556I don’t recall exactly, but I thiiiink they were the first items Windstone offered up on eBay auction? I remember that they went for quite a lot each. I want to say over a grand a piece. Does anyone remember? I think it was even before the ‘first’ Windstone ‘forum’ on Livejournal.

My art: featherdust.comDecember 3, 2010 at 1:45 am #832557i think i remember reading about one or a few of the grands being re-sold on ebay on a really old forum topic. I think in that topic the people commenting were saying that the reserve on them was over a grand as well. I will look and see if i can find the thread
December 3, 2010 at 1:55 am #832558well i didn’t find the thread i was reading before but i read something about them going for between 400 something to over 1000. and i guess back then it sounds like a good number of them were being re-sold but it doesn’t say for how much. I’m not sure i think a black grand unicorn is really worth that much anymore… i mean compared to the really complex colors melody has lately and even those unicorns haven’t sold for over 1000 that i re-call. Unless it has more to do with the fact that the sculpt is like the prototype sculpt for the grand unicorn then maybe i could see it i suppose.
December 3, 2010 at 2:35 am #832559At the time they were totally unique, because they were the first Windstones that were ‘special’ being sold (if I am remembering right). So people were really hyped up over them, AND the economy was better.
Same thing for the first prototype Old Warriors. It’s been at least 4.. 5? Years since then though and a LOT of special stuff has come out since, which makes it less of a big deal. And we all know what the economy is doing. We all have a lot less to spend, on average…

My art: featherdust.comDecember 3, 2010 at 4:25 am #832560Those are good points. I’m thinking that this piece is not going to hit it’s reserve price, especially since it’s almost christmas and people aren’t really spending one themselves right now
December 3, 2010 at 4:37 am #832561Oh don’t tempt me with thoughts of a black grand unicorn. That’s my holy grail piece.
December 3, 2010 at 5:33 am #832562I’d totally love a black grand too-but personally I couldnt justify spending more than $300 on one-so I’ll probably never get one lol I absolutely LOVE the black unicorns-and black unicorns in general. They are truly rare. There are lots of white unicorns out there (even non Windstones) but do an ebay search for black unicorns-not much comes up besides the Terry Brooks novel

Nam is exactly right about it.
I purchased direct from Windstone in (I think?) Spring of 2005. I got like the 3rd or 5th one sold and paid $700. The first one I remember was like $450. I was able to resell in the Summer or Fall of 2006 (we were moving and my Dad was terminally ill, so money was a good thing) around $1,200-1,300. Apparently my auction ignited some interest so when UltraDragonian listed one of his 2 (during the holidays) he had some high reserve like $3,000. Had he had a lower reserve it would have sold in the $2,500-2,800 range, if I recall correctly.
The Black Grands are very nice and extremely rare. If they are your holy grail piece I think they are worth paying a lot of money for. The economy is very weak right now and getting weaker (emergency unemployment was not renewed by Congress) and with the holidays less than a month away, I would be surprised if goes much over $1,000.
December 4, 2010 at 5:55 am #832564DANG!!! I never saw that coming… That unicorn went for more than even the secret keepers are going for right now. I hope the new owner enjoys that unicorn A LOT

LOL Funny! Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnggggg……it sat at $610 for so long, I figured it would hit $1000 but nearly THREE? *faints* Did anyone notice that the bidding more than doubled in the end? It skyrocketed from $1200 to the final bid in one bid-I wonder if someone threw in a high number figuring it wouldnt go that high or they were seriously willing to pay that amount. Either way, I wish I had one to sell! I could go get me a new car a lot faster 😀 lolDecember 4, 2010 at 6:20 am #832567seriously…. i guess if you put a big bid in on ebay you better be sure about it cause you never know. hopefully the winner really was willing to pay that much
