I’m still relatively new to the entire world of selling Windstones on Ebay and whatnot, but when I saw this listing I was still perplexed..

The seller lists that if you want to know who painted them, that you have to buy them to see. This seems really strange to me, and not something I would gamble $250 on (er.. more than that, since it’s a reserve – another aspect of Ebay that I’ve never understood the appeal of). Isn’t the artist who painted them generally a major selling point?

I’m not sure if the seller is on the forums or not, but I was curious what others think about this. Is it tantalizing, does it make you want to buy them if you don’t have any idea who painted them?

I totally understand that it’s the seller’s listing and s/he can list it however they want to. I respect that, I’m just curious to know if others had the same “huh?” 😮 reaction as me.

I’m pretty sure I know who the seller is. If it’s who I’m thinking of, she’s here on the forum, I bought something from her recently and it was great! 🙂 She takes wonderful care of her Windstones! Maybe if you contact her and tell her you’re dying to know the artist she’ll tell you. She sounds like she’s trying not to upset the artist by selling them, but has to part with them.

I see what you’re saying, and that makes sense. I guess perhaps I’m looking at it the wrong way – from a buyer-off-the-street’s perspective, and not so much from a seller who is letting go a prized possession.

Well, I think I know the artist as well as the seller, even though they mention others not knowing them. I’m guessing they mean it in a less literal sense.

Seeing as the price is already at $247.00, either bidders recognize the artist’s work, or really don’t care who the artist is. The latter bidders gives me hope, because it means that it’s not an artist’s name that sells a piece or fetches a high price, but their work speaking for itself (if that makes any sense). 🙂

hmm ya i find that strange too that the artist name is hidden. I don’t normally like the pyo sculpts but these are done rather nicely. From a buyers stand point i don’t like the part about bidding on something and having something held back from me, i’m kind of like it’s my money and i think i should know everything the owner knows about something if i’m going to bid. But I guess the seller must have a reason, maybe that they just want the pieces to be valued for their paint job and not the associated artist. Maybe its a high end artist and the seller doesn’t want it to seem like they are trying to get more money based on that persons name, but then there is a reserve so they do want some amount of money for the pieces… well it’s fun to analyze 😆
I agree though about the reserve thing through. If you want a certain price for your piece just ask for it. Either people will pay it or not… I feel like it should be some big secret. I asked another seller what their reserve was this week so i would know what to bid and they said they didn’t want to reveal it, which i can respect, but it seems like if you really want something to sell you should just be up front about what you want for it and not make people try and guess. Usually when there’s a reserve it makes me not want to bid because I don’t like that sort of guessing non-sense. Anyways sorry for the rant but these are issues i’ve also been debating this week

My thoughts exactly. When I see anything with a reserve on it, I roll my eyes and hit the “back” button. I don’t want to play games when I’m bidding on something.

Someone once tried to explain to me the reasoning behind reserve bidding, and even after it was explained to me I still can’t wrap my brain around it. If you don’t hit your reserve you won’t be selling the piece anyway, so why bother? I dont know, I’m sure it makes sense somehow, it’s just my two cents on my buyer’s end.

I saw that too and thought it was strange-but I too think the seller is witholding the artist’s name so the artist doesnt see it and get upset…the artist probably painted the dragons as a gift (as opposed to a comission) or the artist knew that the dragons were special to the seller when she took on the comission (if it was that) *shrug*

As for the reserve, I know personally I have put a reserve on something so that I can see how high it will go (what others are willing to pay for it) without the commitment to sell it at that price. Sometimes the auction will go OVER the reserve-and putting a reserve on an auction allows that (where as a buy it now does not) And if the item doesnt sell for your reserve, but you like the price it went to, you can always re-list it at that price or (Im not sure on this last one but I think) offer to sell to the buyer at the current high price.
