I know the Keepers and Laps take 11 mm eyes. Does anyone know the size for the production Male Griffin (not the PYO Griffin) and for the Fledgling? I have had a few guesses, but nothing “positively for sure.” 😕

It’s the same (11mm), or pretty dang close, for the male griffin at least. I have one I stripped before doing repairs, and I took his eyes out and tried them on a Keeper out of curiosity. I also tried the keeper’s eyes on him, and they fit. In fact, I think they’re still sitting in his eye sockets, unglued…since I still haven’t finished him. =B

I dunno about the fledge, tho.

            Male Griffin’s take 11mm.

I don’t have a fledge with me so I don’t remember their size.

Thank you both for the info on the Male Griffin. 😀 It looks like 11mm is a popular size, which makes it easier to switch them between the Lap, the Keeper and the Griffin; but those Fledgling eyes definitely look smaller to me. I love the color of my Amethyst Fledgling, but do I hate those orange eyes! I want to order some of those wild eye colors from Amanda at dreamingtreestudio.com in the hopes of finding the eye color, but she doesn’t know the size for the Fledglings either. 🙁

Just a thought– changing the eye color (permanently) in Windstones (other than PYOs) is modifying the Windstone piece sort of like re-painting. While we cannot stop you, I’d generally discourage it because it creates confusion for collectors if these pieces ever end up being sold, traded, or in new hands. Some Windstones hold significantly more value with a simple change like eye color, and it would be very easy and discouraging to see this happen, innocently or not.

Replacing eyes with the same color/size as a repair is okay, but if you are dead set on changing the eye color on a Windstone for good, it’d be very helpful if you could mark the felt pad that your Windstone has been altered.

I’d wonder about saving the original eyes, and putting the replacements in with tacky, like Koishii mentioned doing in a PYO. That way, should the piece be resold, the original eyes can be replaced first. Might it be a problem that other manufacturer’s eyes are being used, should it be resold? Or is this just an easier way to see it’s not a factory made/approved job?

Jennifer: I am not worried about reselling because these are pieces that I commissioned or had repainted for various reasons for myself. They’re not going anywhere; they are mine, mine, mine. 😀

Pipsxlch: That is a great idea; Koishii did that PYO for me, 😀 but I still didn’t think of using tacky for any future eye changes. 😳 With tacky I can get a few colors and actually see which looks best, as opposed to holding them in front of the in-place eyes, trying to decide, sending them off to be inserted, and then thinking I should have picked the other color.

As for my Amethyst Fledgling, I never look at him without thinking how much I love that color but hate those orange eyes; he was about to be eBayed. If I can find eyes I like, they will be changed, and I will be keeping him. If not, he can still be eBayed. 🙂

If you change the eye color of any regular production Windstone, please write it on the bottom with permanent marker (i.e – “eye color changed by XXX on XXX”). Your pieces will eventually go to new homes (no one is immortal).

BTW, the fledglings have 10mm eyes.

Thanks for the eye size, Pam. 😀 And thanks to Pipsxlch, I don’t have to make any permanent eye changes; the tacky idea is perfect for me. I also have a PYO Keeper with orange eyes that I want to change, but I can’t decide which color to get. Tacky to the rescue; I can try several colors now until I find a match. I foresee ending up with extra eyes of course, but I can always opt for a little variety by using them to rotate the eyes on the pieces with tacky in them. 😀

Hmmm. I’ve been thinking that one over. If I can’t take my Windstones with me, I’m not going. :negative:

LOL!! Either that, or I’d come back and haunt my favorite Windstone-that way no one would want it and it would still be mine 🙂

HEY if you decide you don’t like your orange eyed fledgie, I’ll be glad to take him off your hands 😀 Purple and orange are my most favorite color combination
