Sorry it takes me a bit to cross-reference the new users. I just want to be very careful not to ban any legitimate members!
Some of the worst ones, when I cross reference them, have hundreds of reports from forums in a single 24-hour period.
I suspect the new website will eliminate most of this.

Yes, isn’t it scary? Most of the forum spam that we’ve seen in the last month is from bots. The spam-scripts are increasingly complex. The script being a program written just to do this– they essentially are programmed to trawl the web for forums and such, and where there are no protections against them they register accounts (often with crazy usernames, very generic interests and locations, and sometimes a generic icon), associate an email for the account, use the email to activate the account, and then start posting stuff on the forum (usually advertisements or terrible links to sites that contain viruses or spyware to further infect more computers with the spambot program).
They are programmed with what to post, so an actual human wrote it at some point. But the script is just a program that runs by itself once it gets fired off. There are a ton of different ones and variables out there! As ways to thwart the scrips get smarter, so too do the people that write them. Gross!
I am no expert in this matter by any means but these are essentially programs that spam places. Some make sense– they spam ads for a product in hopes of getting someone to buy it. Some spam adult sites in hopes that someone will pay to visit the site. Some spam ‘key words’ which usually look like a string of garbage to try and increase the key words hit on search engines. Some post links to sites that can infect your computer to become a spambot or other stuff like spyware, trojans, etc. Some… don’t make much sense, like this one, but I suspect that if I hadn’t caught it it might have started posting links or something after we ‘got to know them’. Clever! Most spambots come out of the Eastern European counties it seems, for whatever reason.
