We started a thread on the Diabetes Forum for Weight Loss Buddies and I thought maybe we could use one here. I know that some of you are fighting the same battle, and this could be a place to come share how you are doing, look for, or give advice and support. Sound like something you all would like to do?
September 26, 2010 at 11:14 pm #501661September 27, 2010 at 1:44 pm #827816I would join in on that… though my weight loss plan right now seems to be walking around @ work – but it’s stopped working, I think. I’m actually gonna get my Wii Fit out again… I have room now to use it!
September 27, 2010 at 6:04 pm #827817That would be nice! I started walking the track at the college and am up to 12 laps which equates to 3.48 miles! I’m guessing I lost about 6 pounds already–just from walking and this from the beginning of Septemer! Mondays and Wednesday I can only do 4 laps because of an early class but then really go at it on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
I don’t have diabetes and will hope to avoid it. My clothes do fit a little looser and I do have a ways to go! It’s hard when you get older–fat seems to want to be your lifelong friend and just clings onto you for dear life! 😆
My neighbor started to get encourage by my little weight loss and hopefully it’ll inspire her to start walking a little. I hope others in this sinking boat will be encouraged as well. 😀
September 27, 2010 at 8:16 pm #827818I joined the Y, and I am going to start Yoga here soon. I am trying to lose weight, and I can tell I have lost some in my arms and my wast, but I can’t see the results on the scale. *humph* I think this would be a good idea!
September 27, 2010 at 11:34 pm #827819I’m glad you guys like the idea of this thread. The more support we can get, the better.
Dragon87, how do you like the Wii Fit?
LadyFirebird, that’s great on the walking you’re getting in. You’ve got me beat there. Getting regular exercise is my toughest thing to do. Something I want to get after the first of the year is a Total Gym. I like those.
Eaglefeather, I know how you feel. I haven’t lost much lately, but I can feel the difference in my clothes. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat.
September 28, 2010 at 1:11 am #827820I want to kill the trainer on the Wii Fit, but otherwise I like the exercises. You can choose how long to exercise for, and if you buy wrist and ankle weights, you can increase the intensity of the exercise as well. They have running, aerobics, yoga, strength training and balance stuff, too.
Oh. I also hate that talking Wii board. If I gained 1.1kg from my last measurement, it asks me why I gained weight…. “Um, it’s 1.1kg, how am I supposed to know?!” And if you say, I don’t know, it lectures you! 😆
I wish they had a mute button on the board and the trainer…. but then again…. you can yell and scream and swear at the trainer all you want and he/she’ll NEVER get mad at you!!! 😆
Overall – a good purchase, even if I never really saw results from *just* their exercises. Other people I know have though!
October 2, 2010 at 9:13 pm #827821I’ve been sick all week and I expected my weight to go up a bit from inactivity, but it didn’t happen. I’m down 5 more pounds, making it 115 off now. 😀 My parents are coming over for dinner tomorrow and they know nothing about this yet. Should be fun. 🙂
October 3, 2010 at 1:15 am #827822The main thing Wii Fit does for me is ensure that I do in fact weigh in everyday. I’ve had a scale since I got my apartment in college, but somehow it never got used . . . . If I can keep going til Dec. 1st, I’ll have weighed in every day for an entire year. (I’ve had it since release, but I broke the initial run when I got appendicitis, and then when I went to England for a week, which didn’t help the weight much either, lol!) I’ve managed to lose 10 pounds, more because of the weigh-in than the exercises, although I go through surges of doing those. I walk the dog and am now walking in place when I give breaks to the Inspectors on the line, which adds at least 2 hours of at least mild exercise instead of sitting.
I’ve got Wii Fit Plus, so I usually do the quick check and avoid being lectured by the scale, especially since the two major reasons for my weight ‘gain’ aren’t listed – #1 different time of day (when I get bumped to 1st shift, I don’t weigh myself before leaving the house at 4 am), #2 different house (the scale reads higher on my parents’ carpet than mine). I really like the ‘bike-riding’ exercise, but I suspect the jogging and ‘hula-hooping’ are more useful. Although the Single-Arm Stand will wear you out. Simple idea – stick one arm straight up in the air and keep it pointing straight up while you lie down – and stand up- and lie down – and stand up . . . now switch arms.
I do NOT believe that I really ought to weigh 119 pounds, BMI or no – I’m shooting for 135, and then if I can stick there for 6 months, will try for 130. My problem was that I was gaining and retaining about a pound a year, and after 20 years that adds up. I’d like to back down some and then stop the trend as much as possible.

GOOD GOD, I HATE that stupid arm stand thing. I tried it once, and I was in so much pain by the end, that I was crying! LOL I never touched it again.
I think I’ll weigh in tonight. Maybe do some stuff. I could use some fun. 🙂
October 10, 2010 at 5:02 pm #827824We had my parents over for dinner last weekend. Dinner was great and my parents were thrilled with my weight loss. This is the first they knew about that or the diabetes or any of the other stuff that I’ve been dealing with this past year. I had to educate them a bit about diabetes though. My mom’s first comment when I told them about it was “That’s okay, you keep losing weight and it will go away.” I’m amazed at how many people believe that. My boss and I butted heads about that theory last week. He’s thrilled with how I’m doing though.
I also ordered an Aero Pilates machine, with the raised platform, this week. I’m really excited about getting it. Regular excercise is something I’ve not been too good about. It has a rebounder on it which I’ve used before and really enjoyed, plus it’s easy on my knees! And, you can get a better cardio workout with it than you can on a treadmill. Can’t wait to get it. I’ll let you know how it goes
How’s everyone else doing?
October 10, 2010 at 10:25 pm #827825I know what you mean about people thinking that once you lose weight–diabetes goes away. Losing weight helps you keep the diabetes under control! That is what I understand.
Well I’m still doing the 12 laps around the track–did lose a couple more pounds and I am feeling better. I’m not able to do the 12 laps every day because of an early class on Mondays and Wednesdays. My legs can get pretty sore but I’m going to hold at the 12 laps for now–don’t want to push it before I’m ready.
So far so good and at the rate I’m losing the weight it looks like about a pound a week. So I may lose more than my target 10 pounds by the end of the year.
October 10, 2010 at 11:40 pm #827826Good for all of you! I’m so proud! My weight is stuck at about 210 which is horrible for me. The only redeeming factor is that I’m nearly 6 feet tall.
the biggest trouble I have is neuropathy in my feet and even sitting down they are axcruciatingly painful. When I’m on them, walking, etc. it’s like walking on coals mixed with shards of glass and metal spinters. I can do about 3 miles a day but then I pay for it for a week or more. Good on y’all, you’re extraordinary! Keep going!twindragonsmum 😀

Maybe some sitting down exercises would help you better then walking ones? I know you say it hurts when you sit as well, but it’s got to be a bit better (and with less long term consequences) then walking would do, right? Not that I know much about neuropathy or anything. Just a thought.
And I haven’t done anything in weeks. I’ve just been exausted. 🙁 Really long hours at work, and work trying to pile more stuff on my schedule and such. 🙄
October 11, 2010 at 4:39 am #827828Two years ago I had babies and in these past two years I have gained almost 100 pounds. I went from 135 to about 220 (I’m afraid of the scale!) My problem is that I spend all day cleaning up the house, cleaning up the kids, making sure everyone is fed and happy and by the time I’m done I’m exhausted and don’t want to do anything. Another thing that is KILLING me is that one of my little ones is underweight (even though he eats the same portions as me and my husband!), so I have to cook high calorie meals for the three skinny men in my life. CURSE THEIR HIGH METABOLISMS! Self control is my problem, I see them eating cookies and french fries by the bucket and all the other deliciously greasy stuff they eat and I want it too 😥 I know what’s causing my weight gain, but I just can’t tell myself NO! It breaks my heart when my little ones want to rough-house with me but I’m too darn out of shape to keep up.
