Hi Melody, do you happen to remember what size the keeper/lap dragon eye size is? Thanks 🙂

Me? remember anything??
I think the Lap takes 11mm and the Keeper takes 10 mm, but I may be wrong. This is a good question for Pam or Chessie who may actually know the answer.
Now, what was I doing? 🙄September 27, 2010 at 4:16 am #827789😆 I know how that feels. Should I pm pam or Chessie or do you think they might happen upon this?
September 27, 2010 at 6:20 am #827790I measured the eyes for my keeper and they’re 11mm. I tried to measure the eyes for my lap(which is tough because their glued in) and as far as I can tell they’re 11mm as well.

I just measured a Keeper and our 11mm eyes don’t quite fit . The eye sockets are made over sized, so the socket may be 11mm, but the eye that fits comfortably is 10mm.
Glass eyes do vary in size quite a bit. If you have gotten 11 mm eyes from a source (such as a taxidermy supply) that has a type of eye that tends to be thin and on the small side, they may squeeze in.
Our 11mms are way too fat to go under the upper eyelid of the Keeper.
*edit* Lets change that to: The 11mm eye I tried was too fat, that doesn’t mean they are all too fat, but use care when putting the eyes in. Our eyes vary in size!
If an eye fits tightly it’ll be nearly impossible to remove it again though, so be sure that is the eye you want before you try it!The Laps do take 11mm. I just tried one.

It’s Monday and I’m at work, so I actually measured a Lap and a Keeper myself.
Ha, I was right!September 27, 2010 at 5:25 pm #827793Melody wrote:If an eye fits tightly it’ll be nearly impossible to remove it again though, so be sure that is the eye you want before you try it!
This!! Don’t put a snug fitting eye into a Windstone and expect to get it out again. Sometimes you can, but usually I end up breaking things. I’ve had the better part of a PYO griffin’s face shear off before doing this and was ruined.
Also, the Windstone eyes made at the factory are not all super uniform. They are hand painted and can vary in size and thickness by nearly a millimeter at times. So use care.

Too true! I have have chipped several eyelids trying to remove or replace eyes 🙄 . And the size variance is true for both Windstone glass eyes and glass eyes from other suppliers. Use care, indeed!September 28, 2010 at 12:24 am #827795Thanks so much for all the feedback. I will use care. THank you Melody for taking the time to measure that for me 🙂
September 28, 2010 at 1:15 am #827796It’s funny how 99% of Americans all shriek in the face of metric 😆 I still do any way.

I am 99% sure that PYO keepers also take 11mm. I know they don’t take 10, because the keeper takes colors that we don’t have in 10.
September 28, 2010 at 2:53 am #827798I think it may be the griffins with the eye size/socket difference. I put the eyes in just to see how they would look, and now I can’t get them out. I guess this means I don’t have to glue them in. 😆
And I wasn’t about to try and force them out either… not after what happened with my phoenix! 🙄
I got lucky. It came off in one complete piece and was able to glue it back on perfectly. Thank goodness, too… I think I would have had a complete meltdown. I was trying eyes from another supplier, so I will add my word of caution along with the others.Maybe this is a good time to ask about selling eyes in the store so we don’t look elsewhere?? 😳 *hides*
September 28, 2010 at 3:10 am #827799Griffins and the little dragons take 8mm.
Unicorns and phoenix are 6mm.
Wolf is 4mm.
Muse is 7 and 8 mm.
And the keeper almost certainly takes 11.September 28, 2010 at 3:37 am #827800Melody wrote:FlamingDragon wrote:I measured the eyes for my keeper and they’re 11mm. I tried to measure the eyes for my lap(which is tough because their glued in) and as far as I can tell they’re 11mm as well.

I measured the eyes that came with the keeper(red) since their not glued in yet. It’s weird that the 11mm eyes you have don’t fit because mine fit with wiggle room. I even had my dad check my ruler measurement with a caliper after I read this and they measured 11mm dia x 4.7mm deep.
