Well come Monday I’ll go to my first class at the local community college! I’m both excited and scared at the same time. Everything is ready–got my books, my parking permit, supplies, clothes, brain…wtf–where’s my brain!!!!!! 😆 That’s how it’s been going here for me lately. I’ve looked over the books and I know I’ll have a bit of a push to learn the medical technology…I’m studying for a Certificate for Medical Assistant. I suck at learning languages so this will be a challenge for me.
My purpose is two-fold—not only do I plan to get that certificate I also plan on dropping some excess poundage along with it. This campus is large and the surface isn’t always flat which is good. I plan to walk around between classes and I’ve already bought healthy items I’m going to eat for lunch! My goal for this year along will passing all my classes is to be 10 pounds lighter!
Went shopping yesterday and found athletic shoes on clearance and I was able to get two for under $30! That was a pleasant unexpected find! So I’m set–the old gal is finally getting her a$$ in motion! Wish me luck! 😀 8)

I’m so proud of you LadyFirebird! 😀 I’m doing something similar-I’m going to school to be a Radiographer. So if you need some help studying for medical stuff, I’ll be glad to help. I hope you get some really great teachers that present the material in a way so that you can understand. 🙂

September 9, 2010 at 8:27 pm #825450Well it’s been two weeks since I started school and of course, it wasn’t without some minor glitches. They are doing some construction on the campus and it has caused some things to move–like the bookstore! I ordered mine online through the college bookstore and they email you when your books are ready for pickup. I was able to get in on some used books but noticed in one workbook that some pages were torn out! Fortunately, the bookstore just said to bring it in right away and if they had another used workbook, it would be an even exchange, otherwise I would have to pay the difference between for a new workbook. That was taken care of easily.
Then the first week it was about 100 degrees out! It has been on the cool side all summer and now it decides to get hot! 😡 The campus is very beautiful and has lots of trees but it seemed that everywhere I went was not in the shade! Then college has changed a lot since I last attended back in the 90s–and I was getting old then! Had to learn some new system of email that is set up between the teachers and the students for each class. Wasn’t hard but just another thing I had to learn and adjust to. It took me about a week to realize life would be so much easier for me if I had a laptop and so that’s on order. At least I get 9 months interest free to pay it off!
I get there early not only to get parking but to also walk around the track. Hey, the old gal is up to 8 laps on the outer track which equates to 2.48 miles! I’m already seeing a little different in certain things I put on that aren’t as tight. I know I’m dropping the water but it just feels good to see some results. So far, so good.
Another good thing is that I had this conception that the younger folks were so computer savvy and I’d be the dunce in class always asking questions—WRONG! These younguns are good at video games and downloading music and texting and such but when it comes to apps–the old lady here has them beat. I had to tell one young man how to order his books on the college bookstore website and a few others how to get around Microsoft Word. Hey, I even type faster than they do! This took me by surprise and it was a pleasant one. Again, so far so good.
Now comes today, I get to the campus early and do my walking but notice afterwards that the parking lot looked very empty. It was eerie like everyone knew something I didn’t. I also noticed that the lights weren’t on in the bathrooms–thought maybe they’re saving energy. Then I saw that the admissions office was closed, the library and the cafeteria! Finally found a staff member to ask and was told there is a major power shortage throughout the campus. She then wondered how the heck I got in because they have barracades at the entrances! Well this was one morning the early bird didn’t get the worm! So classes are cancelled today–wish I would have know that before because this place is about 10 miles from me–could have saved some gas!
Oh well, if that’s the wrost thing that has happened then I’m good to go! 🙂
