As some of you may have noticed I am auctioning a few Windstones on ebay. More to come probably, but maybe not. Things aren’t looking too good so I don’t know if the bill will get much higher.
Ted is in the emergency animal hospital. He’s not my dog, but my sisters. So far the bill is already up to $1400 and I need to try and help her out since she is using our mortgage money to pay them at the moment. I honestly don’t think he will make it through the night though. He was perfectly fine about 3 days ago and has been steadily getting worse as far as starting out with a bit of loose poops and just laying around a lot and not really acting himself… not wanting to go outside and stuff like that. We’ve had rain the past 2 days so we thought maybe the rain was just bothering his hips cause that happens a lot since hes pretty old and a bit overweight. He started seizuring and loosing his bladder earlier which prompted the emergency trip Robyn just got back from. Since then he has had 2 more seizures, one in the car, and again at the vet. When she left, he couldn’t even walk. He’s a 13 year old Pomeranian, and as far as his age the vet doesn’t know what’s wrong with him yet. He’s on an IV and a catheter and having some tests done, but when the vet asks you “If his heart stops do you want us to resuscitate?” You know it’s not good.
So anyway… I think we should just let him go, but Robyn refuses. She wants them to resuscitate if necessary, but I have a feeling that will only last long enough for her to say goodbye. He is such a good dog… what a crappy day… She will probably head back there later on if they let her visit that late.
This is a picture I took of him last weekend.
*sigh* all the animals are getting old… this is going to start the cycle rolling I just know it. Poopie is just a few months older then Ted and now she’s totally deaf. The cats, Shady, Bubbas, & Snickers are very old as well. Bubbas is 22 now and Shady and Snickers are 17/18 ish. If they all start going now I’m going to loose my mind.

I’m sorry you and your sister are having to go through this, drag0n. Sick pets are terrible for both the heart and the finances. I wish the best, whether he recovers quickly or passes quickly without much suffering.
August 25, 2010 at 1:42 am #825268It’s a heartbreaking decision to have to make. Ted looks like a wonderful and friendly pup. I’m sorry you and your sister have to go through this now.
My cats are 18 and 15 and I know I’ll be having to let them go soon. Just…not yet (wish that could be never…)
August 25, 2010 at 1:46 am #825269I’ll be very sad of course if he passes away, but he’s suffering right now very badly. I really think she should put him down, but he’s not my dog and she doesn’t want to.
Its… sometimes, you can just TELL when it’s that time to let them go you know? I’ve never seen him look so bad before and it happened so quickly. At his age and weight I just don’t have high hopes. He must be so scared being in a strange place with strange smells he doesn’t know. He has a pretty nasty cataract in one eye and the other is not that great either so he’s probably just alone and afraid and in pain. It just bothers me leaving him at the vet overnight with that feeling he’s just not going to make it. I think it’s very hard for the owner (I’ve had to do it before so I know it is), but I’d rather put them out of there suffering with them in my arms where they at least have that much comfort then leaving them alone to suffer by themselves. At least in this bad of a situation.
Bubbas has made a few miraculous recoveries and because of that, she always refuses to let them go when it’s time. I give her credit for never giving up, but there’s a point where you need to let go and say goodbye. It’s so hard, but she is very stubborn.

As I get older, my reactions with my own pets has changed drastically. I have learned a lot in my half century of life and one big thing is knowing WHEN.
It’s time to say goodbye when you don’t want to the most.
Thoughts are with you all – and you have many cherished friends nearing fate. :/ Wow, how lucky you all have been!!!

August 25, 2010 at 2:55 am #825272Drag0n Im so sorry to hear about your sister’s puppy dog. 🙁 I wish that all our beloved pets could stay young and healthy for as long as we do. I agree with you-if he is not looking so well and the vet says so too, its probably best to let him have a moment of peace at least. I hope he makes a recovery though. *hugs*
August 25, 2010 at 3:00 am #825273That is so hard to go through. Major hugs and prayers, Drag0n.
August 25, 2010 at 3:10 am #825274I am so sorry to hear this and hope he has rest soon. 🙁
August 25, 2010 at 3:31 am #825275Thanks a lot for the well wishes guys. I hope he’s doing okay as well, or at the very least were able to make him comfortable. My sister has been pretty quiet downstairs and I’m afraid to visit and upset her more talking about this stuff.

I spent over a grand when Rab passed and over $600 when Xena went and all the money in the world didn’t save either of them. 🙁 I am sorry about your sisters dog but I hope she can let that goldie oldie go before she gets too financially strained.
August 25, 2010 at 6:32 pm #825277Ted is gone. He passed away about 5 am this morning.
