August 21, 2010 at 11:58 pm #824891Let the games begin! First meet of the season was hosted by Firth High School out at Sandy Downs the local horse track. I’ve NEVER seen so much mud in my life 😮 😮 I shoulda known ’cause it was called the “Firth Mud Run”… We got to see our old team from Soda Springs which was lots of fun but made us a little homesick, too. Boyohs are lobbying for dual households for the school year so they can attend Soda High and run with the old team vs. running for our new school. I said NO! I’ve done dual households before and I really, really, REALLY do not like it! So we’re home now, sun burned, drenched in mud and trying to figure out if I should even try to wash the clothes and clean shoes or just chuck ’em all out… Luckily it wasn’t clay, just sandy, but most of the kids ran barefoot ’cause they lost a shoe or both in the muck… I was really proud of the middle school runners – you forget just how small some of them are and they were slogging away in mud way up past their knees

One solution: A hose. Hose everyone and everything down outside, then wash it. Leaves most of the mud and dirt/sand outside. 🙂

September 11, 2010 at 2:55 pm #824895Last week we went back to Soda Springs for the Cardinal Classic XC meet and it was a brutal day – They hosted over 1200 runners, middle school through high school. Soda’s population is only 3,000. It was terribly hot and it made “heartbreak hill” all the harder… Sean did well with a time of 22 min. 7 sec. for 3 miles over rugged terrain. He’s running on the Varsity team as the only freshman – the other boys are juniors and seniors and he’s faster than 2 of them…
Yesterday was a home meet at Freeman Park here in Idaho Falls and another big turn out with teams coming in from Utah, Montana and Wyoming. Sean managed to shave almost 2 min. from last weeks time coming in at 20 min. 35 sec. Our team from Soda was there as well and it was good to see the crew again 😀 I think Sean is settling into the new team nicely and the older boys have been very welcoming with not too much ‘ribbing’ of Sean’s freshman status 😆

September 23, 2010 at 5:10 am #824896A few shots from the Cardinal Classic Meet at Soda Springs…
Holden, in the shades, number 2221, is Bonneville’s front runner on the Varsity team
Tyler-2226, Kevin-2228, Reynold-2232 and Sean-2220 (the tall blonde kid) just heading up “heartbreak hill”
Reynold and Sean
coming in from the flats; by this time kids were up-chucking…
Sean headed for the finish and still going strong – finished with a time of 22:07 for 3.2 miles 😀

September 25, 2010 at 3:46 am #824897Home from the latest meet that was held in Blackfoot, ID. Sean is continuing his streak for setting his “personal best” time. He ran 3.5 miles in 19 min. 6 seconds and had a good “kick” sprinting the last 100 yards to the finish. Bonneville’s front runner, Holden, finished at 18 min. and some odd seconds (can’t remember 🙄 ) Holden is a senior this year; Sean is a freshman – I think I’ve already mentioned that 😳 Any way, Holden has invited Sean to run with him on weekends and is very encouraging – He’s helping Sean work on his form and thinks that Sean should be able to match his (Holden) times by district finals. It’s a great bunch of kids!
