Hiya, Mel!
Me boyohs have a question for you regarding the ‘crest’ on the male dragon. This last week the family hit So Cal to visit family and we got to go tour Mission Inn in Riverside. They have two exquisite Macaws named Napolean and Josephine. We noticed that they used their feathers as a form of communication; raising it and lowering it and cocking their heads from side to side – extrememly expressive creatures. Me boyohs want to know if the male dragons communicate in the same sort of way; do they raise and lower their crest in order to help express themselves like the Macaws do?
thankies,

So… that brings up another question… What are the dragons ‘mating’ rituals? π³

August 16, 2010 at 1:50 am #823768Heh- a lot of lizards as well as birds use crests/dewlaps etc. in mate attraction and territorial displays, don’t see why dragons wouldn’t. Cool question!
August 19, 2010 at 8:43 pm #823769Didn’t know that Macaws had a crest… cockatoos do though…
August 20, 2010 at 3:04 am #823770I didn’t think Macaws did either, but there was lots of feathery ‘movement’ (for lack of a better description) going on… π

lol – feathery movement! Well, I do know some rituals my goffin does, and also, she enjoys mastu…..OOPS……… family forum π‘ But its hilareous – and sad too I guess, but mostly hilareous π
I think the main ritual a dragon would perform is to present its mate with a couple of ‘boyohs’ HAHAHAHA — sorry, couldn’t resist π
August 20, 2010 at 2:28 pm #823772“couple of boyohs…” *SNERK!* Let me tell you, Roddy was (and still is) one proud papa! He’d carry ’em around the house at the same time like a pair of footballs all the while commenting (gloating) “MY boys! Theses are MY boys! See what I did? MY boys!” It was really funny and sweet to watch π

…Or happy, or sad, or bored, or excited, or upset, or because there is a fly on the ceiling, or when they see the mailman, or because the sky is blue….

Haha, that sounds like my dad’s conure!
August 23, 2010 at 3:07 am #823776My mom has a Macaw. One day it started “coughing” and kept that up for a week. So, she took it to the birdy doctor and said, “my poor bird keeps coughing, what’s wrong with her?? Is she sick??”
The doc looked the bird over and asked her, “do you cough a lot?”
She said, “yes, I have asthma.”
The doc said, “she’s fine! She’s just mimicking you!”
πA little off topic, but I thought it was a funny Macaw story!

August 23, 2010 at 2:23 pm #823778That’s too funny! Growing up, some friends of our family had a Myna bird with a HUGE vocabulary – it would ‘meow’ at the dog, ‘bark’ at the cat, ring like the telephone and the doorbell and would sing along with whatever music was playing. His favorite greeting for anyone who came through the door was “I can talk! Can you fly?” and then he’d laugh hysterically π π π He was also very affectionate and would nuzzle into your neck and say “What a nice friend, such a nice friend” π
