I have been reading the “Hatching Dragon” thread with great interest and I was wondering – am I the only one who is bothered by or dislikes the idea of the Hatching Pegasus? For one thing, it looks out of scale with the Mother Pegasus, which bothers me WAY more than it should. Also (if you will forgive me), Pegasi hatching from eggs would probably be biologically inaccurate. 😕
I don’t know how complicated it is to produce and paint, but it is more expensive than the Baby Pegasus. If we could have more Pegasus colors, more often, by eliminating the Hatching, I would be OK with having it discontinued. On the other hand, it may be everybody else’s favorite Pegasus, or easy to produce, or a big seller, or something. Just curious.
July 29, 2010 at 6:31 pm #822959Nooooooooo! I love the hatching pegasus! He’s adorable! Plus since they are mythical creatures…Who’s to say they don’t hatch! 😀
I think they’re more $$ because of the egg being harder to cast and to paint?
It will be interesting to see how many other people don’t care for him. I find usually the stuff I love, others say ew. LOL.July 29, 2010 at 6:38 pm #822960I love the hatching pegasus because of that wonderfully detailed pewter wing with the feathers still partially in their sheaths. *geeks* I love the idea of them hatching from eggs, too.
But I do realize painting the eggs is a nuisance for Windstone, so if they were discontinued, I’ll try not to cry…too much. 😥 😆
I hear you on the out of scale part, though. Painful to think about poor mom laying such an egg. 😉

Ha ha ha, yeah if you have the hatching Pegasus side by side with its mother …it looks like they would produce eggs like a Kiwi ; a kiwi egg is half their body weight!
I didn’t really intend the Hatching Pegasus to be part of the Pegasus family when I sculpted it , that is what I made the lying Pegasus foal for.
The Hatcher was a separate sculpture that was supposed to stand alone. I got the idea for a Pegasus coming out of an egg from the movie Fantasia. Though there isn’t a Pegasus egg, Mrs. Pegasus rises from a nest in a tree with a brood of babies. How could a mare have a litter of babies? They must of hatched from a clutch eggs in the nest! When I was little, I didn’t really grasp the idea that eggs came out of a hole in the mother, so Pegasus eggs worked for me.
The Hatching Dragon is an important part of the “family dragon set” though, so an H. Pegasus couldn’t replace it for that purpose.. I would have to replace the hatching dragon with another sculpture that is similar, because the Mother dragon is made to be with a baby.July 29, 2010 at 6:57 pm #822962If the sequence for the Pegasus is Male Pegasus – Mother Pegasus – Baby Pegasus, wouldn’t the corresponding dragon sequence be Male Dragon – Mother Dragon – Fledgling Dragon? Not that I object to having Hatching Dragons (though a case probably COULD be made for live birth).
Then there is the question of a Hatching Griffin … (sorry) 😳

Then there is the question of a Hatching Griffin … (sorry) 😳 I intended to do a baby dragon for the “family” and never did. I am doing one now. The fledgling isn’t really in scale with the family, he ( and the “Hatching Royalty” dragons ) were actually intended to be the Secret Keeper’s babies.

Thank you for taking the time to explain all this. I am also glad to know how the Hatching Pegasus fits into the Pegasus Family, as explained in your earlier post. Collecting families, or creating “families” out of different elements, seems to be important to a lot of people. I guess I’m one of them – I collected “families” as a child, and I’m doing it again now! 🙂
July 29, 2010 at 9:23 pm #822965I have secret keeper babies! They need to grow up 😀

But weren’t the hatchers and fledgling produced before the secret keeper was in the works? 😕 Their date is 1997. Or was the secret in the works for THAT long, since it only came out a few years ago?
July 31, 2010 at 4:41 am #822967I love the hatching pegasus. the scale of it does bother me a bit, but not enough to be too bothered by it. I love the wings!!!

July 31, 2010 at 11:05 pm #822969Speaking of SKs 😳 are we going to see more of those available in the store ever again in other colors? My emerald babies need an emerald SK mom 😆 Just asking cause I thought I heard some where in a post along time ago that you guys wouldn’t be casting more SKs and i didn’t know if that meant forever or just until things smoothed out at the factory
August 1, 2010 at 12:07 am #822970(hoping for an emerald SK one day, since old green is probably out of the question) squeek*
I must admit that the egg with the hatching pegasus is offputting for me. Think I’m in the minority though! I do like the sparkle (if you will) of the emerging foal and his wings quite a bit though.
