So my neighbor gave me some Amish friendship bread batter and a recipe. Basically, on day 1 you do nothing. Day 2, you mush the bag. It tells you when to do what, and when to add ingrediants (flour, milk and sugar) and 10 days after you receive the batter, you measure off 1 cup of the batter into 4 one gallon zip lock bags, and bake the rest. Now you can either give all 4 away, or keep 1 and give 3 away. If you keep one you’ll be baking every 10 days. The bread is super addicting. Its fun to do, easy, and its sooooooo good! Its like a cinnamon roll-only a whole loaf. There’s no icing, but it doesnt need it. Oh, and it calls for 1 cup of oil-the last 2 times I was out of vegetable oil so I used Coconut oil-and a cup was toooo much! Maybe use 1/2 a cup or at most, 3/4 a cup.
For some reason, the people Ive approached don’t understand it, or say they dont have time to do it (really? You dont have a few seconds to sqish a bag, and then make some bread a week and a half from then? ok!) If someone wants some, I will have some more batter in 3 days…so if you PM me now, I can get it out to you ASAP.
I will for sure have 3 to give away, and I am thinking STRONGLY of giving away the 4th one and be rid of the stuff, unless more than 3 people want some. Or if someone wants one of the loafs I will have, of the finished let me know. PM me with your address and I’ll mail it out to you π
So, who wants nummy delicious cinnamon bread?

July 8, 2010 at 12:44 am #819898I dont think so…Im not sure. π I thought since it says to mush the bag, and it would be getting moved around in the mail, it would be okay.

I read that too, but I have seen a couple different recipes show up before.
July 18, 2010 at 3:45 pm #819907I’m midway to baking this bread–just added the flour, sugar and milk the other day. I do see it bubble a bit which they say is normal and I have to let the air out now and then. I am looking forward to trying this. Two days in the mail didn’t seem to affect it any but I’ll see on the bake day.
I’ve dealt with starters before–mostly for sour dough bread and one word of caution–if at any time you see the mixture turning pink or get gray throw it out because bacteria has set in! It would also have a foul order to it. So far I haven’t had a problem with this starter and it’s been pretty warm here–even being mailed.
Thanks, Wolfen for sharing this with us!!! π
EDIT: Just wanted to add that I did bake this today and it came out delicious! Now my starter was in the mail for 2 days and it didn’t seem to affect it. Just so everyone knows!
