I got this cheapo bisque ceramic dragon at a fleamarket, resculpted it a little and decided to use it as a practice for a paint scheme i planned for a keeper. I worked on it some yesterday after work, and showed it to various family members around. They christened it “Icky-Poo-Pinky”. 😛 🙁 Only my daughter liked it.
“It’s a girl!” (well, maybe, I don’t generally name or genderize them)
“Eww, it’s pink!” It’s supposed to be sea colors; peach shading to pink like a conch shell and seafoam colors.
So is this color scheme that bad? The keeper that was going to wear it has yellow eyes and an aquamarine jewel, it could be a good Avatar keeper with those colors.
It isn’t yet finished in these pics. From what my monitor shows, the peach looks more pink here than in real life.
July 1, 2010 at 1:11 am #819413I would use orange/copper instead of the pink. The contrast with the blue would be much more striking. ‘Twould look awesome on a keeper!

I dont think Its “Icky-poo”” 🙂July 1, 2010 at 4:10 am #819415Ha! I’ve have that very same ceramic dragon. Painted him a looong time ago. I personally like the peach and the blue together. I think you could make it work 😉 .
July 1, 2010 at 4:29 am #819416I like the coloring! He would fit right in with a reef and reef fish!
July 1, 2010 at 11:01 pm #819417ROFL!!! I remember that dragon.
Ceramic dragons always take me back. 30 years worth of ceramics in the family does that I guess. Doc Holiday always had the best dragon ceramics, for what their worth anyway.
I think the color scheme would look nice on a Keeper though. With black accents! I think it would be sharp! 😀

July 16, 2010 at 4:19 pm #819420PM’ed you, TDM! Sorry I haven’t been back here to see it before.
I told my daughter she could have the statue, and she’s been bugging me to finish it. lol She decided it could be ‘mother’ to the Littlest Pet Shop seahorses she collects. Maybe, they’re freaky alien looking things if you haven’t seen them. I’ve been really down and didn’t feel like painting, but to make her happy I just quickly threw some faint stripes and interference on it and called it a day. She’s happy with it, this is when she started to bring it its ‘babies’. 😀
Not exactly how I’d do a keeper, but it gave me ideas for when I’m ‘up’ enough to start. Wow, these bisques are harder than PYOs! (don’t seem to accept the paint as well, maybe because the finish is rough? Found out the hard way I couldn’t antique this)
For anyone else who likes the statue itself, I saw some on eBay.
July 16, 2010 at 4:31 pm #819421July 19, 2010 at 6:10 pm #819422I really like the colors! The pink and blue do remind me of the ocean, totally. Like a shell in the water, or a fading sunset, or reef life like drag0n said 🙂
If you paint a keeper like that, I will want it. Forewarning. XD
