EDIT! GRIFFIN COMMISSION SLOTS CLOSED UNTIL I GET MORE GRIFFINS. I got 3 commissions 😀 Woo!
His itching is out of control! I took him 2 or 3 years ago and they said he was fine, but he is most definately NOT FINE! Poor guy looks like I set his belly and boy bits on FIRE he has chewed himself so bad! 🙁 The skin scraping and test cost about $150 so that’s what I need to save to bring him in for a test.
So I need to bring him to the vet. I posted some fursuit items here
http://community.livejournal.com/fursuitauctions/1379983.html?view=9670799#t9670799and as for the moment I am also posting Koishii’s PYO dragon repaint “Copper Mint” up for sale starting at $150 plus shipping
Just reply here of PM me if you’re interested. I’ll close the sale sometime on Tuesday if I get any bites. Here is a link to some photos, he’s a lovely dragon, but was a repaint so he doesn’t have a felt pad.http://www.windstoneeditions.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7598&p=267588&hilit=copper+mint#p267588
Finally I have the ability (since I have a few PYOs now) to do a PYO griffin commission for a discount price. Custom eyes will be available if you so choose, but I also have a few other colors too. I’ll do the commission for a discounted rate of $150 plus shipping! Not too bad for a griffin 🙂
SO whatever sell’s first is what I will do. 🙂
Thanks guys!
Just PM me or just reply here if interested

June 20, 2010 at 9:28 pm #818250I read some of your comments in the LJ comm and just wanted to mention, like the old busy body that I am, have you done a 6-8 week food trial (as in, a food source with both a novel protein, and a novel carbohydrate, like z/d or similar from the vet) and NOT FED HIM ANYTHING BUT THAT FOOD? I abuse the caps key, because it’s important. He can eat nothing but that food, and only that food. If he gets scraps or anything you’re right back to square one with the trial. If it’s year round, and you get hard freezes where you live during the winter, my first thought would be food issues.
But you can also ask for an allergy panel. They draw blood, send it off and you get results back as to what he’s allergic to, and they formulate a serum that he’ll get injections of at intervals to help control his symptoms. It’s expensive, but far better for him than steroids.
Good luck selling your items though!
June 20, 2010 at 10:44 pm #818251You might try buying a tube of Promeris flea control. If he has scabies the skin scrap could easily test negative. In addition to fleas and ticks Promeris treats some types of mange. $15 for a tube $150 for a skin test and it might save you a bunch of frustration. 😀

Sun Dragon Koi #3June 21, 2010 at 3:42 am #818252If he had scabies wouldn’t we have caught it? I’m not really sure what to do, but it seems like if I ever try anything new, I just further irritate his skin and the problem only gets worse. He’s wearing little socks right now Shaun made for him so he would stop with the itching at least. Now it’s just chewing.
He’s also been on Advantix, in fact he had a does about a week ago so I know its not fleas. I haven’t seen one flea this year yet. I nipped that right in the butt as soon as the ice melted this year since he is highly allergic to flea bites.
He’s been on his new food for about 2 weeks and he’s itching worse then ever and I know for a fact he can’t have any kind of mange.
Corgi’s are known for all types of skin problems, but it’s just getting to a point I feel like it’s animal abuse. He stinks and nothing I do works. I’ve gotten advice from all over about all different things to try and it never really gets to the root of the problem. I really want him to just STOP being itchy. It’s ruining his quality of life. 🙁

I hope Ein feels better and I know how frustrating this must be for you! But I have heard that itching is very common in dogs and most of the time its associated with the food that they are eating or allergies. If you asked me last year I would have never said this but I am 100% for raw food for dogs now..I have done alot of research and I have seen such an improvement with Maks since we started feeding him raw foods. I know that my situation is very different form yours but I have to admit that Maks used to itch alot as well on top of his other condition that he has been diagnosed with and my vet kept on telling me to try different food brands form the vet or the local pet store which ended up making things worse for Maks I think..1 He’s always had very sensitive skin but since the raw diet I have noticed that he has not been itching as much! I am pretty sure that Maks was alergic to something in all those dry foods!
hat if your dog has alergies the vet mey put them on prednisone! Just make sure if that happens that Ein gets potasium cause there is something about prednisone that takes that away from the dogs and its not good for them, just out of pure luck Maks gets banana bread for a treat and I think thats what saved him cause our vet never told us and he was on a really high dose of prednisone for about 8 months or so.

June 21, 2010 at 4:03 am #818255My sisters dog was on that for the majority of her life. She had horrible cirrhosis and it made her have to do number 1 very often. She would often have accidents and later passed away due to kidney failure. I don’t know if it was connected but it seems too much of a coincidence. 🙁
As far as raw food.. what do you feed your dog? Raw human food?

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsJune 21, 2010 at 5:07 pm #818256YUP…we get it form a women that feeds her 5 dags RAW food as well, she grinds up all of the bones with the different types of meats and sells it in portions to us along with the other stuff that your dog is required to eat, we feed Maks all of the required animal parts that he needs in his diet and some are really smelly but we get them frozen and give them to Maks frozen which really helps with storing the foods and taking away the smell of it.
You can research online if there is anyone in your area who does that and you may be able to connect with them. the RAW diet is human raw meats but the dog also needs all of the nutrients from the bones, so they have to be included in the meal as well as all of the stomach of the cow and other things as well.
I will admit that it takes a bit of learning adn knowlege cause its not as simple as just regular pieces of chicken etc that you would feed your dog but the diffence is truely amaizing.
I would suggest you do some research online cause every dog is different and the portions go by your dogs weight.Marzena

Just a fair warning – I don’t have a big problem with the RAW/BARF diet so long as its working for folks (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?) but be super careful in transition. It’s very important to do your research and find someone who really does know what they’re doing to help you make the switch, if you decide to do so. Also see if your vet will have an intelligent conversation with you about what s/he thinks might help. (sometimes they won’t, it just depends on the doctor, unfortunately).
Allergies/skin problems are a pain in the behind no matter what!
June 21, 2010 at 6:22 pm #818258I haf a chow that had flea allergy among other allergies and when nothing else seem to help I would put about 12″ of warm water in the bathtub along with a cup of Epsom Salts then put her in it and dribble it over her for about 15 minutes and that seemed to really help her you might try that.

Depends. We’ve had scabies twice. The first time it took 5 different vets, 5 skin scrapings, and 7 months to get a diagnosis. Neither the cats, myself, or my roomate got the scabies but all the dogs did. 😕 The second time Lel had what looked for all the world like a plastic allergy. She got itchy on her paws and tummy. It only took me about a month to recognize it the 2nd time and I did get them that time. Lel was the only one who came down with them. I figured you used flea control, so a one month experiment for $15 might be worth it.
The gal my dogs caught it from the 1st time had taken her dog to several expensive specialists. She’d put $12,000 into trying to diagnose it. We wouldn’t have except Suna’s ear presented as classic scabies, and we lucked out on the vet. We had extra sulfur dip and gave it to her. Her dog cleared up like magic. It’s really hard to diagnose.
It could be food allergy. My GSD has that but his ears get really inflamed and then the hot spots appear. He’s allergic to poultry. 🙄 Which is in just about everything. We experimented with food until we found one he would eat that didn’t cause the reaction. If you think it’s food allergy you might try Eagle Pack Fish formula. It’s a good hypoallergenic food.
