So I found some gorgeous red silk in a remnant bin last week & decided to make a new gown for an even this past weekend. I originally planned to make it a normal black/red parti colored cotehardie & put my black unicorn & red roses on the bottom front of it to make it heraldic. Once I got the black and red silk sewn together though all I could think of was ‘This is what Harley Quinn would wear if she was going to wear a cotehardie!” So I changed the design; added diamonds and swapped out the coloring on the sleeves & came up with this:
The dress also has long, hanging sleeves (which you can’t see above as they are behind my skirt) that I added diamonds to the bottom of as well:
(there are red diamonds on the black side right near the center seam but they are hard to see in this pic)My Hubby’s favorite charchter is Harley & even though he is away in Sweden for a few more weeks he sure let me know how much he liked it when I sent him the first pic! Many other people at the event loved it as well.
i already have plans for a Dark Phoenix and Poison Ivy cote in the works. 😉

Yep. Two days actually. Well, two nights; I work a full time job too. 😉 To be fair I’ve had this pattern for 5 years now and have made a lot of these gowns for myself over the years so they go together pretty quickly. It was just figuring out what color goes where that was tricky as well as switching between black and red thread all the time!
May 24, 2010 at 8:11 pm #815762I so want your skillz. I have some beautiful satin left over from my wedding (heh, now divorced almost 10 years later, but that’s a different story) in both off white and royal blue. It was called “Princess satin”–heavy, smooth, gorgeous. I’ve wanted to make something from it for a long time, but I’m not so talented. Actually, motivation is probably a problem, too. Anyway, you are talented, pattern or otherwise!

A few people said that about the Queen of hearts too that day.
I’m actually not at a Ren faire. I do medieval reenactment with the SCA: http://sca.org/. It’s quite a bit different than ren faires as we aren’t putting on a show for other people but we do it for ourselves rather.
