I left work at about 3 pm, so early. When I got to my street, there were 3 police cars parked in the street, I could barely get into my driveway! One of the officers looked at me as I drove slooooowly by – I pointed that I was just going home.
I park into the garage (I know, we’re really weird that way), close the door and go inside. All the lights were on, so I cursed my daughter for forgetting to turn them off. Then I realized the kitchen door is open – we close it so the dog doesn’t go upstairs while we’re gone. And the patio door was open, and the front door was unlocked… I called out to my daughter, wondering if she had even gone to school, then wondered if my husband had come home early. But his car wasn’t there.
That’s when the police officer came in and told me that someone had broken into my house!
The neighbors called it in. The officers had gone through our last calls on our phone and found Dean’s cell phone, so they contacted him. He had emailed me at work, thinking I was still there, so I had no clue. I swear, that officer must have thought I was some kind of weirdo.
They broke down the door on the fence, tore out the screen on the living room window and opened the window somehow. They made straight for our bedroom and stole jewelry. The police caught one of the guys – get this, he’s 14!!! So some of the jewelry was recovered. Some is still missing; the value is mostly sentimental, as most were gifts, but still… Dean had a beautiful old gold watch that was his father’s. One of the pendant’s came from Tahiti, stuff like that.
Now we need to repair the fence door and get a new window screen. Nothing else was taken and nothing was vandalised, so we’re really thankful for that. But really, with all the crap going on in my life now, I didn’t need this!

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmApril 19, 2010 at 11:40 pm #811552OMG! At least none of you were home when they tried to break in and everyone is safe. *hugs* Good news to hear that they caught at least one of them. If he’s 14, it’s possible he’ll squeal and they’ll get the rest of your stuff back (hopefully *fingers crossed*). Still, what a thing to come home to! 😮
*hugs again*
April 19, 2010 at 11:43 pm #811553Oh wow! That stinks! I am so sorry to hear that. And the feeling it leaves you in is horrible. 🙁 I had my bronco II broken into once and I remember very well how that made me feel. 🙁 I am sooooo sorry!
Glad to hear that they caught one of the kids that did it and some of the items were recovered. Hope that they catch whoever else was involved.
April 19, 2010 at 11:49 pm #811554AnonymousThat is one of my worst nightmares – WOW I can’t believe a cop let you drive on into the garage – you must have felt like you were in a Twilight Zone episode! Horrible…. I had a co-worker who had that happen to her, and they not only robbed her but did some awful things to her home as well, making it nearly unliveable, destroyed a lot of stuff 🙁 I hope that 14 year old spills his guts, and you recover all the stolen items. So sorry to hear this happened. We all need to really be careful, it’s hard times for everyone and thieves are looking for an opening. ::hugs::
April 20, 2010 at 12:00 am #811555That totally sucks Medley. I hope they’ll be able to catch the other guy. I just don’t understand people these days.
April 20, 2010 at 12:23 am #811556I’m sorry. Hopefully they can get the kid to ‘fess up and recover the rest of your stuff. 🙁 Do they know why they targeted your home? (some neighbors had it happen; turns out if was ‘friends’ of the older son’s, who learned their schedule from him)
April 20, 2010 at 1:21 am #811557Fucking KIDS! 👿
I’m glad no one was hurt.
Sorry for your jewelry 🙁
I used to live with a teenage thief, and had to put a lock on my bedroom door!
He still managed to get inside it by going through the crawl space under the house and stole my money I had saved in a secret place.
I think they are worse then adults cause from what I seen and heard of his little gang’s break-ins they would do alot of unecessary damage like flooding the indoor hot-tub, throwing all the big furniture on the floor, braking glass tables….also nasty stuff I can’t say here.
Glad I’m away from them and they don’t know where I live. 😛
Glad he’s not the one who robbed you.
Hope they catch the other one 😡April 20, 2010 at 1:54 am #811558That would suck to come home to! I hope that 14 year old spills his guts! Well… maybe not literally…………..
My grandparents got robbed after going on vacation – their TV and some jewelry was stolen, and the police were going – “This is an inside job, it had to be family or friends”. How horrible would that be to hear? They wouldn’t even listen that all of their friends were seniors and that their family lived minimum an hour away. Because a 70 year old can totally climb into a basement window, jump the 5 feet or so to the floor, then carry out a television set, all by themselves. 🙄
In reality it was probably just someone noticed that no lights were on, day in, day out, for over a week.
People actually do watch to check schedules though…. and it’s usually someone you’d never notice, like a kid who lives in the neighborhood.
April 20, 2010 at 2:28 am #811559oh wow… how incredibly scary! that would really freak me out. glad you and your family are okay though.
April 20, 2010 at 2:31 am #811560So sorry to hear that this happened to you! 🙁 No one needs this! I hope you can recover all of what was taken. Someone breaking into your home makes you feel so violated–someone entered your private space without permission! We’re all here feeling for you and sending positive, comforting thoughts your way.
April 20, 2010 at 7:11 am #811561I’m really sorry this happened to you, Medley. I am glad they caught at least one of those jerks; I hope they grab the rest too.
April 20, 2010 at 7:16 am #811562I am so glad they caught one kid!! Many times, thieves get away with stuff1 My mom’s house had been broken into once, and they never caught the guy. It makes me so mad! The audacity of those idiots who want to take advantage of others! Grrr! I am so sorry!!
April 20, 2010 at 1:33 pm #811563I hope the guy spills his guts too. However, we’re not too hopeful in recovering the rest… They were just kids who didn’t have anything better to do after school, I think. Not too bright either! We have quite a few neighbors with irregular schedules or who work from home. Duh.
Anyway, I’m just pissed.
