I live in Brampton, which is about 30 minutes away from Oakville. It’s part of the broader Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It’s not the cheapest place to stay, but I believe it’s better than in Toronto itself. If you’re working in Oakville, you can live in Hamilton or Burlington too.
I have no idea where you are now and what the cost of life might be like, but I think that you’ll find some thing better and others worse. The plus side of living in Ontario (and most of Canada) is the medical care. OHIP covers a lot of the basic stuff, including emergency care, and if you’re coming here, chances are your dental and meds will be covered by the employer.
We do get a bit of snow, but thanks to Lake Ontario, we don’t get all that much compared to other places!
I love living here 🙂
