I got a weird email from a seller on ebay autralia to remind me to pay for a gold ring.
Problem #1:  I didn’t buy a ring from anybody.
Problem #2: It’s not even adressed to me.
Problem #3: How in the hell did my email addy get mixed-up in this. 😕So I investigated it and the two parties are legit, they were not made up.
But I’m still not going to click on any links in that email even though all the links go back to ebay when you schroll your mouse over them.
I am reporting it to ebay so they can verify what went wrong.
Weird!
Did any of you ever find yourself in that situation?January 24, 2010 at 5:35 pm #803765I’ve had that happen occasionally. I always just report it to ebay and go about my business.
January 24, 2010 at 5:53 pm #803766I’ve had it happen too. It was a scam. Go directly to E-bay, and log in, and see if it’s in your messages there. If they’re not there on E-bay, it’s a scam. If it is, someone may have hacked your account.

Already did that and it wasn’t there. 🙂
But then again when I get a reminder to pay something on ebay it never shows in my messages.January 24, 2010 at 9:12 pm #803768This is a popular phishing scam. Don’t click on anything in the email. Don’t use any of the links in the email. The scammers will use legit users on eBay and will make it appear as if the email has come from eBay. It has not!! This is the way they get people’s eBay/Paypal accounts/passwords.
Forward the email exactly as it is (don’t alter anything or explain in the body of the email) to spoof@ebay.com
They will email you back within a few days to let you know it’s a spoof/scam.

Yes that is what I did when I reported it but I did explain a little. 😳
Guess I’ll have to send it again and this time not say anything 🙄 Stupid me.January 25, 2010 at 10:31 pm #803770Yikes, that is some scary stuff. Sorry that it happened to you. Thank you for posting. Now I will know what to do if such a thing happens to me.
