please be careful with facebook apparently their internal security has been hacked and its allowing a scam anti-virus installer to be operating on the site these things alert you with an error or warning your system has become infected or an error has occurred and when you click ok it installs a Trojan and or a rootkit virus
so just a quick note of caution

Well, you can only hope! I guess when you get an error or infected message not to click ‘ok’ and logoff? You’re not safe anywhere!
Ah-ha! For once, I’m glad I haven’t yet signed up for FB! Hope this doesn’t come to bite anyone here. What a pain.

if you get it check your own antivirus installed the icon should be lower right corner with the clock if the message IS from that anti virus then open the program and it will give the alerts
best thing hit that red X in the upper right corner close the browser if the alert warning goes with the browser close its the bogus thing

Yep, my computer at work let me watch p*rno all day (a tax accountant’s office), not to mention closing out all the pop ups. Then if your antivirus finds it, and you delete, etc. It crashes your puter and you only get a blue screen. I hate to think what it’ll cost my boss since he doesn’t mind me playing online. I need to find a way to pay him for the putergeek to fix it tonight. Always something when you have nothing. 😕 😥

If this comes up as a pop-up window, DO NOT click on anything in the window. I repeat, DO NOT click on the window itself. Close your browser (with Task Manager if you have XP, don’t know other systems) If you click on the pop-up, that tells the program to download and execute.
That was the one and only virus I’ve ever gotten, and it was expensive and frustrating to get rid of.
back to occasionally lurkingHm, this sounds suspiciously like like a trojan I’ve had to deal with many times called “Antivirus 2009/2010.” This is a nasty trojan that takes over your computer pretty quickly. McAfee often treats it as benign and even allowed it to install a fake alert that would interrupt my scans every few minutes. It even has audio that tries to scare you into clicking to buy the product and give away your personal information. You have to respond pretty quickly to this virus with scans or it will take over. I’ve had to close the browser window to prevent it from further interrupting scans. Like Nikki said use Task Manager, do not click on the window. To be honest though, this trojan can be caught many other places besides facebook. I’ve even managed to catch it looking at a picture in Photobucket. It’s pretty common unfortunately. The tool that I have found most useful to get rid of this trojan is Malwarebytes. Run scans until nothing comes up for about two or three scans to ensure that you’ve gotten rid of everthing.
If this thing got through FB’s security, does their tech support know it? If it is common you would think they could get a handle on it. And from what I see, you can catch these things on other sites besides FB! It’s a pain to have to deal with something like this. If it hit FB then my guess is that it could hit any of these community type forums.
Of course, we won’t have to worry about that here—we have Snap!!!! 😀

Yup. It’s not just facebook. I got it on my work computer almost 2 years ago. It was horrible. They ended up reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling everything because they couldn’t get it out. I *know* I didn’t get it from facebook. I have no idea where it came from.
