I just found out last night about a painting which is due next Monday (ahhhh!!) It’s a fairly large painting and very detailed and I haven’t started yet. So I will probably be mostly absent here for a week while I try desperately to get this done.

If anyone needs me, needs forum help, spots a problem I should know about, or otherwise needs to contact me about anything, please use my email as I will be far more likely to see it in a timely manner. nambroth (AT) gmail (DOT) com

I’m looking forward to seeing the painting. Will you post it on your website and/or DA when you’re done?

After it’s judged, yes… so in February I will.

Moved this to the art forum where it belongs.

My painting was judged as some of you know… I just got the results back!

My rank was 13, and I made it past round 1, which is pretty hard to do!
                Here are the winners:

                And my painting.

Right now I am working on two paintings for two different state competitions. Due at the end of the month! Ahhhggh!! *rush*

Wow, 13 sounds pretty good, considering all the competition! Thanks for the update, and good luck with your current endeavors! 😀

I hate to say it, but I liked yours MUCH better than the top two winners. And what’s with 3 of the top 5 being of snow geese? Anyway, yours was FANTASTIC!!

                    I agree with ghost.
Those others seemed abit washed out!
I liked yours much better! 🙂 it looks more life like

That’s beautiful, Jennifer! And congrats, wildlife competitions can be tough.

Although, I’ve never heard of a Waterfowl ConVERsation stamp before… maybe they meant ConSERvation. XD

GOOD LUCK with your other competitions!!! 🙂

not to put Jennifer’s picture down.. but I can see why the others were picked above it.. considering it’s a stamp competition.. it would be so much harder to make Jen’s picture into a stamp verses the others..

and that’s only because I’d say that is right now in my illustration class we are making stamps.. postage stamps where you have to place postage and names on the stamp.. and that is very hard to do when you have to make all the words readable and not ruin the picture.. the ones that were judged the best were lighter and as someone mentioned “washed out looking”… well that makes placing lettering so much easier..

Jennifer’s picture of course was amazing.. but placing any text or lettering on the picture.. well that would be pretty hard to do without completely altering the look..

I love Jen’s pic and think it’s they best one I saw out of all of them.. but just not the best for a stamp.. but I like everyone else here would still rather that Jen would have won..

And hope you win one of the next ones..

                          Thanks frozen!

Unlike postage stamps, conservation stamps usually have most of the text printed in a white border around the edges of the image, as so: http://www.fws.gov/duckstamps/federal/stamps/images/2009fedstamp.jpg http://www.fws.gov/duckstamps/federal/stamps/images/2007fedstamp.jpg

But some text is still placed on the piece.
I agree.. for a stamp, mine is very saturated in color! My next piece is far less saturated. I appreciate the honest feedback! Sometimes a good piece of art does not make a good stamp.. and vice versa! It’s a hard balance to make a piece that is good ‘art’ and also a good design for a stamp.
