So since we have to kiss red paint goodbye for now does that mean no more violet flame pieces for now? Does that color scheme need red? Not that any VF’s are being painted now anyways 😀 just curious about what might happen to that color in the future if red paint can’t be used. Thanks! 🙂
December 9, 2009 at 4:06 am #795422I thought I may have read something about red paint but my short term memory is shoddy. Can you refresh my memory as to whats going on with red paint, or link me (or tell me) to something about this info?
With the Rubys and RFs being out there, personally, I’m fine on the red for now. However, when it comes to red accenting in another colour scheme like VF as you said, that can pose a worrisome issue for me because red as an accent or secondary fiddle in a colour scheme is important!
Whaz the shizzle?! 😈 😕 😀

December 9, 2009 at 5:05 am #795423I know they are having problems with the red fading pretty badly. It is pretty hard to find a red that doesn’t fade in the sun. I’ve been in the print business and that is the most fadable color when under the sun. I don’t even want to think about how much repainting goes into stop signs. lol 😀
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
December 9, 2009 at 1:41 pm #795424Oh yea! I think I remember reading that. Pity. I haven’t experienced it because the windows are tinted (keeps heat out) and the pieces aren’t in way of sun. But this is still valuable info to know. Thank you!
Stop signs! XD

December 9, 2009 at 1:56 pm #795425Here’s what Melody said about red paint on the blackberry lap thread:

Are you sure that wasn’t a “cranberry” one? We will probably never paint any dragons with that deep red again, unless some paint company comes up with a more stable transparent red color. We have given up using the ruby red that is part of that dragon’s color. It is trouble.
A real pity. I suppose it also wreaks havoc on Melody’s attempts at a ‘fire and ice’ dragon too. 🙁
December 9, 2009 at 7:22 pm #795426I’m not a big fan of the mostly red dragons myself – but I do love red as an accent color. Personally I feel it would be a detriment to stop using red paint completely. I’m not sure if this is actually going to be the case. What I do know is that I would love to see a fire-ice color scheme dragons. Even Violet flame or Violet red dragons. It’s just such a shame that red paints are so darn tricky 🙁 .
December 9, 2009 at 9:40 pm #795427Well mostly what I would like to know is if the violet flame color even uses any red paint. I know purple technically has red in it but if it comes pre-mixed maybe it isn’t a problem. If it was a problem I guess that would mean no more amytheist dragons either. So does the no more red paint rule affect violet flame Miss Melody?

I don’t want to mess with that red paint. I don’t know what is wrong,if its the way we are using it, or that we actually are using the wrong ruby paint ( we’ve got a few different ones) but that stuff is nothing but trouble. It actually faded visibly in a couple of hours on a piece last time I tried it! I am trying doing test paints using other reds that are stable, to do a version of autumn color things .
I still have a few red pieces which seem ok, that I am still going to put on ebay, but I don’t want to do any production things!December 10, 2009 at 9:14 pm #795429Melody wrote:It actually faded visibly in a couple of hours on a piece last time I tried it! That is just WEIRD! I wonder if it’s a reaction between the paint and the gypsum. Though, I would guess that you guys prime the pieces before you paint, so that shouldn’t be it.
